From his private room in an expensive hospital, young John Gilbert, through a pair of opera glasses, sees a little crippled dancer in the window of a theatrical boarding house opposite. He becomes so interested in this girl that he sends his own doctor over to attend her. He learns that she has had an accident and will never be able to dance again. Daily he sends her gifts, flowers, books, etc. She receives them gladly, as they contain no card from the mysterious donor. Gilbert, on the way to recovery, meets a great surgeon from abroad. His first thought is, could he cure that girl across the way? After consulting with the doctor, the surgeon accepts commission from Gilbert to visit the girl. When she learns what he has done for her, she refuses to accept the assistance of a man she does not know, much as she would like to get well. But Gilbert sends her a letter stating that she has brought a new interest into his life and helped him recover and asks that he be allowed to do the same...
