MPAA Rated R for graphic violence and some language

Sex & Nudity

  • Some vaginal imagery and symbolism throughout, but no actual human nudity. Breasts are dimly visible a few times on a fairy creature a few inches high, but these scenes are dark and the fairy is in constant motion.

Violence & Gore

  • A creature is seen killing two tiny fairies with relatively bloody effects.
  • A lot of shooting through the movie.
  • An injured man has his leg amputated. The saw is seen on his leg but the movie switches scenes before anything occurs.
  • A man is hit repeatedly in the face with a bottle.
  • A man who has been tortured is shown tied to a post, his face covered in blood. We see that one of his hands has been sliced almost completely from side to side so that his fingers are nearly severed. He is clearly in pain and begs another man to kill him.
  • A man's badly gangrenous leg is shown, and we see the first cut, but no blood, as a doctor begins to amputate it.
  • A group of soldiers are shot, blood sprays from the impacts.
  • A man's face is repeatedly hit with a bottle; his nose caves in and is driven into his skull. He and another man are subsequently shot dead.
  • We watch as a man stitches up a large cut through his cheek (blood is shown)

  • 4 uses of 'fuck (1 'motherfucker') and 'son of a bitch', 2 uses of 'shit', and 1 use of 'bitch' and 'asshole', as well as 5 instances of 'damn', 2 uses of 'God', and 1 use of 'Jesus'

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A man drinks alcohol in a few scenes, and men and women drink wine at a dinner.
  • A man smokes in some scenes.
  • A doctor gives a man an injection of something that will painlessly kill him.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The Pale Man scene is intense.
  • Some of the violence is intense.
  • The entire movie has an eerie and dark feel.

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • A large flying bug transforms itself into a CGI fairy with female form: the outline of breasts and buttocks are visible. The nipples are clearly shown briefly, though in shadows. The bug is seen "reading" a book so you know when it's about to transform.

Violence & Gore

  • A disabled man is tied up and threatened with torture. Later we see him bloodied and in pain from the wounds inflicted upon him. He is euthanized to end his suffering.
  • A woman is captured and tied up and told she will be tortured. Before the assault begins, she manages to free herself with her hidden knife, and when the torturer is not looking she approaches him and stabs him several times, then she makes a cut in his mouth.
  • There is a monster that stabs and eats children. This is only shown through illustrated panels, but the central character does confront and eventually escapes from the monster.
  • A woman stabs a man until he dies (not shown graphically)
  • A girl is shot in the abdomen, some blood is shown on her dress and drops from her mouth and nose.
  • A man is shot in the cheek, blood fills the bottom part of his eye as it rolls up.
  • The toad looks scary and he vomits his entire body. Very terrifying and nasty
  • A man shoots another person twice in the chest or head, he quickly dies.
  • Someone stabs a villain in the back, and then in the chest.
  • Bloody eyeballs are seen lying on an table.
  • A villain is shot in the head
  • A woman goes into labor, we hear her screaming, we see some blood-soaked sheets removed from the room.
  • A frog throws up orange goo (possibly his internal organs, though not bloodied, in a fantasy style) and collapses into frog skin
  • The main character gets shot in her belly. Blood is shown for some seconds.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A man drinks a glass of alcohol that has been laced with a sedative. It causes him to stumble and stagger.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The giant toad scene is frightening/intense and very gross.
  • The Pale Man could be frightening. The Faun's appearance could also frighten.
