Stars and Stripes 1 is a fine extra on the Stripes DVD
Just watched this extra on the DVD of the movie Stripes. In this one, director/producer Ivan Reitman and producer/co-writer Dan Goldberg tell of how they thought of an Army comedy starring Cheech & Chong when their previous movie Meatballs had its premiere. They also tell how eventually Bill Murray and co-writer Harold Ramis ended up replacing them despite Ramis' screen test not going well with Columbia. Among others reminiscing about the shoot were players John Larroquette, P.J. Soles, Sean Young, Judge Reinhold, John Diehl, Ramis, and Murray when he was in Japan shooting Lost in Translation. After going a little bit about the late Warren Oates, at the end the late John Candy gets a heartfelt tribute from everybody which would not surprise anyone who was familiar with the latter's previous working relationship with Ramis and Murray. Well worth seeing. Now I'm watching Stars and Stripes 2...
