About The Author, And Spielberg's View Of 'Pre-Crime Program'
11 September 2007 | by ccthemovieman-1See all my reviews

I disagree with Steven Spielberg on this, or would at least like to ask him a question regarding a statement he made regarding the subject matter of this movie. According to Spielberg, just having the remote possibility that something could go wrong and the "pre- cogs" wind up being wrong on once case would be enough for him - and he thinks everyone agrees with him - to get rid of the "Pre-Crime Program," if there ever was such a thing. In other words, Spielberg would rather have 1,000 people murdered than have one innocent man suffer for a crime he didn't commit. To save thousands of lives as opposed to one seems a bit much but....

Anyway, there is no "debate" as the title to this bonus feature on the "Minority Report" DVD states; it's just Spielberg's opinion on the matter. The rest of the feature deals with how some of the people are thrilled to work with some of the others, blah, blah, blah. There is one interesting comment by screenwriter John Cohen who tells us a little about the man who wrote the short story on which this film is based: Philip K. Dick. He sounds like a strange guy, which makes me wonder if finding his book might be something worth doing.
