Anachronisms

The brooms used during the beginning of the movie appear to be of modern design and machine made.

Ivy's father tells her that his father was very good with money and wealth. However, growing up in the Village, she would have had no exposure to money or wealth, therefore she should not have had much of an understanding of it.

Boom mic visible

When the Ones We Don't Speak Of first raid the village and Kitty takes the children to the cellar, there is a quick shot of Ivy at the door as Kitty begs her to close it and hide with them. A boom is just barely visible lifting out of the frame on the right side of the frame.

After Ivy falls in the hole she puts the things she is carrying very near the hole, at the edge. When she is climbing out, the things have disappeared from the edge, and once she is out, they are a few meters from the hole.

When Lucius ventures into the woods he picks a branch off a bush with red berries on it. When he emerges out of the woods there are green leaves on the branch which were not there when he picked it.

During the wedding feast, two villagers throw a carcass onto a stone slab at the edge of the village as an offering to "those we do not speak of". The carcass appears topside-down after it is thrown. However, when viewed from the other direction in the next shot, the carcass is topside-up.

As Ivy listens to Mrs. Clack ask the villagers to offer Lucius their prayers, Ivy is standing at a distance from the crowd. In the next shot she is standing much closer and is now slightly behind them.

Factual errors

The film misunderstands how "no fly zones" work in the United States.

While there are areas which have heavily restricted flight patterns, there are almost no areas which have complete bans on overflight. These areas are almost exclusively the ones used or occupied by the President of the United States or which have national security interests. And even those areas will allow military and emergency overflights if they are required by need.

It would be virtually impossible to purchase the right for not only civilian aircraft, but also military ones to not overfly a particular region. Even if it were possible to do so, aircraft would still have to be allowed to fly NEAR such locations as not doing doing could itself create navigational hazards which could endanger them.

And finally, while restricted overflight areas DO exist, they are often subject to accidental and intentional overflights by civilian pilots. Unless there is a squadron or wing of aircraft prepared to challenge the aircraft or the facility has anti-aircraft defenses, there is no way that overflights could be prevented or even seriously discouraged.

When Ivy goes into Lucius' home, she should have been able to smell blood before running into him on the floor. Anyone, whether seeing or not, would have smelled blood after someone had been stabbed that many times.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

When Ivy enters the woods to get help for Lucius, off in the distance through the trees you can see a pole with a bell on it, used by the villagers for warning purposes. This has been mistaken for a telephone pole and the bell as a transformer.

Casting Joaquin Phoenix. No one in an isolated 18th century village could have repaired Phoenix's cleft lip, never mind that his was/is almost certainly accompanied by a cleft palate. It's one of the most common birth irregularities and it's quite likely that a village that size could have had at least one child with the defect - but it would not have been repaired. It makes suspension of disbelief very, very difficult, and almost impossible after the big reveal.

At the wedding dinner there is a child wearing red when red is the "bad color" and represents evil, yet nobody gets upset.

Before Ivy enters the room to slap Noah for stabbing Lucius, she hands off her cane. But when she leaves the room, she somehow knows the cane is right beside the door and immediately picks it up without being told where it is.

Despite being a relative short walking distance from the walls surrounding the state nature preserve where The Village is located ( less than 20 miles or so) no external noises are ever heard. This includes gunshots, motor vehicles being operated or even music. Any one who has been in a rural area knows (or learns) that sounds travel for miles. There is no way short of technology not shown in the film or living underground that this can be stopped.

"Wildlife preserves" are government creations which are nearly always taxpayer- funded. As such, there would be no way that Walker's family (no matter how wealthy) could "purchase one." In fact, doing as such would attract the attention to it that the group in The Village would be trying to avoid.

Revealing mistakes

During the first alarm set off by the tower watchman, the village is in a frenzy to hide in their homes but Lucius is walking around. On the corner of a house, before Lucas comes into frame (31:43) a forbidden-colored (red) bucket is clearly left on the porch.

Spoilers

The goof items below may give away important plot points.

Character error

When Alice is explaining to Lucius what happened to his father she says his body was found two days later floating in the river. In the voiceover towards the end of the movie she said his body was found three days later.

When Ivy finds Lucius stabbed, she hugs him until she is taken away by her father. We see there is nothing on her shirt when she leaves. In the next scene her shirt is smeared with blood down the front and on the sleeves.

Crew or equipment visible

When Ivy emerges from the woods and the Land Rover pulls up, we see a view of the side of the truck where it says it's from the Walker Wildlife Refuge. The car is so clean and shiny that you can plainly see the reflection of the camera, dolly, tracks, feet, and a wall.
