Security is a funny, improvised film of a familiar subject.
13 March 2004 | by tbonemus6See all my reviews

This movie is about characters we are all familiar with, security guards. Whether are experience is as an average person or "civilian" who comes into contact with them or as one of the many people who perform this important (self-important?) function in our society. While the film is not completely accurate, it captures the essence of the different archetypes of security officers, such as the over serious guard and the public relations expert. Whether this is a favorable portrayal of the professional security officer or not, it is funny. You need to see the whole movie. At least one of the characters becomes more than just a two dimensional caricature (2.5 D?). Nevertheless, this would be a great training film for the noble, security profession of what not to do. It also shows a larger picture of the work place.

This mystery will appeal to security professionals and "civilians" alike. It was well received at Cinequest. There were laughs from the very beginning which increased as we became more comfortable with laughing at (or with?)the protagonists and the situations. Please forgive me if I give too much away, but it is also a love story. You can decide if this portrayal of the love of two men is closer to the love between Sam and Frodo in The Lord of the Rings, or is closer to love found on Will and Grace. The portrayal of the love between a man and a woman is also portrayed as well as the love between a man and his bandage.

The acting is very natural because this movie was improvised. The improvisation may lead to better portrayals of the characters because each actor has the responsibility for his/her character. You will enjoy this film. If you don't see it because of the rent-a-cops search for "candy" you will be missing out. Besides it would be a crime.
