According to CBS CEO Les Moonves, there was no shortage of comedians hoping to replace David Letterman as the “Late Show” host, but Stephen Colbert was “the only logical successor.” “Every name in town came up, we got a lot of calls from agents and managers, but the one that stood out amongst all of them was Stephen Colbert,” Moonves said in an interview (above) during “CBS This Morning” on Friday. ”It appeared to us that he was the only logical successor to David. And when I called Dave to ask for his blessing he said exactly the same thing.

New York Entertainment Industry Slowly Resumes Work After Sandy

New York Entertainment Industry Slowly Resumes Work After Sandy
New York — For the second night in a row, superstorm Sandy and its aftermath forced David Letterman to live out that performer's nightmare: Telling jokes to a vacant theater, or as he called it, "a big ol' empty barn."

Letterman hosting the "Late Show" to an unpeopled Ed Sullivan Theater on Tuesday, as he did on Monday, was the oddest sight of the considerable and continuing cultural fallout of the hurricane that left New York institutions like Broadway, Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center no more open for business than the city's damaged subway system.

But the New York entertainment industry was fighting to go on with the show, and none more than several of the city's late-night shows. Though "The Colbert Report" and "The Daily Show" canceled tapings for the second day, the "Late Show," Jimmy Fallon's "Late Night" and a traveling out-of-towner, ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," went ahead with shows Tuesday.

Sandy Disrupts New York Entertainment

Sandy Disrupts New York Entertainment
New York — Broadway, Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center all remained dark Tuesday as Superstorm Sandy left the New York entertainment industry fighting to go on with the show – even if it meant performing for empty studios.

That was how David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon taped their late shows Monday night, leading to some remarkably quiet monologues. On Tuesday, as the city took account of the damage wrought by the storm, some late-night shows were moving back into full production, while the aftermath of Sandy continued to cause the cancellations of film premieres, film and TV production and even that most unshakable performer: Bruce Springsteen.

The Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band concert scheduled for Tuesday night at the Rochester Blue Cross Arena in upstate New York was postponed until Wednesday because of the hurricane. Officials at the arena said the concert was rescheduled due to flight cancellations for Springsteen's

Ben Affleck Talks George Clooney's Advice on Argo
Ben Affleck kicked off his day in NYC with a visit to CBS This Morning's studios. Ben has been keeping busy on the promotional trail in the lead-up to the release of his third directorial project, Argo, on Friday. Charlie Rose interviewed Ben during today's early-morning broadcast, and Ben talked about soliciting advice from fellow actors-turned-directors like Warren Beatty, Kevin Costner, and George Clooney before making the movie, which is based on the 1979 Iran hostage situation. He said the wisest suggestion they shared with him was to be sure to avoid the temptation to just do one take of his own scenes. Last week, Ben premiered the film in La with Jennifer Garner by his side, and he'll be back home later this week to host a special screening of the film with George's producing partner, Grant Heslov. George and Grant were involved in the film from the early

Maria Shriver Remains Mum as Arnold Schwarzenegger Continues His Tmi Book Tour

Maria Shriver Remains Mum as Arnold Schwarzenegger Continues His Tmi Book Tour
Maria Shriver took time out for a little pampering on Tuesday. And who can blame her, seeing how Arnold Schwarzenegger has been so vocal lately about the collapse of their marriage while out promoting his new autobiography,Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story? Not surprising, Shriver kept to herself as she made her way out of a Beverly Hills hair salon yesterday. Meanwhile, Schwarzenegger continues to make appearances in support of his book. Last Sunday, he was seen on 60 Minutes, where he expressed hope that he might one day reconcile with Shriver. He also visited both CBS This Morning and The Daily Show With Jon Stewart on Monday and appeared on Piers Morgan Tonight on Tuesday.

Maria Shriver Not Responding To Arnold's Tell-All

Maria Shriver Not Responding To Arnold's Tell-All
Arnold Schwarzenegger was happy to sit down last night with "60 Minutes" and talk about his tell-all memoir, "Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story," discussing everything from his arrival in America to his marriage with American royalty, Maria Shriver, and the child with his housekeeper -- Arnold held nothing back.

However, Shriver is a very different story. She has not spoken out publicly about the end of her marriage, despite offers to do so from everyone from Oprah to her old bosses at NBC.

“We’ll have no comment,” Matthrew Digirolamo, communications director for Maria Shriver told me, making it clear that Shriver would be saying nothing today or in the future about Arnold's new memoir.

“This must be a very painful time for her,” an old NBC colleague of Shriver's tells me. “Maria is a very private person who doesn’t enjoy seeing her personal life on television or in magazines.
