Storyline

When Clinton's decided heterosexuality was placed under fire during the Starr Investigation and ensuing impeachment hearings, gay people strongly identified with the President's discomfort and outrage. Today, public ambitions inspire (or even require) lying, covering up, and shading personal truths for survival. Barney Frank - the first openly gay politician on Capitol Hill - understands a thing or two about survival on Capitol Hill. After overcoming his own sex scandal in the early 90's, Frank emerged as one of Clinton's most eloquent and sympathetic defenders during the impeachment hearings. Well-loved for his political wit, Barney Frank has also emerged as one of the most popular Congressmen in the United States. Via interviews, news clippings, and exclusive footage shot during the Clinton impeachment hearings, "Let's Get Frank" is an intelligent and humorous look not only at life upon Capitol Hill, but also the dynamics of political scandal. Barney Frank - An Unlikely Hero...
17 December 2006 | by downforthat17See all my reviews

This documentary is a real breath of fresh air... I particularly like the fact that I learned a lot about Barney in a totally unpretentious format. His colleagues, mother and lover all give a great external view of Barney and his enormous achievements, but it is Barney, himself, who we learn the most from. He has his own unique style of deflecting the small minded haters - showing up the very juvenile attitudes toward his homosexuality by some of his colleagues - even in the most public settings, by zinging it to them with one liners that flawlessly hit the spot.

The "off target" connection between the witch-hunt Clinton impeachment hearings and the obsession of many politicians who are still so openly anti gay, is sadly, very well documented. Barney, unabashedly, tells it like it is... It makes you thankful that he has been such a brave spokesperson for all oppressed people, not just the gay community.
