The show is based on the incredibly popular Kirby video game series, featuring plenty of elements from the games such as Copy Abilities, Dyna Blade, the inclusion of the Animal Friends from Kirby's Dream Land 2, and so on.

According to the Kirby Right Back at ya pilot episode (2000) Meta Knight was originally going to use his wings like in the games and be one of the villains turned out that his wings were scrapped from the anime for unknown reasons and he was changed to the deuteragonist of the anime also but Ice Dragon and Blocky were confirmed in the anime while Captain Stitch,Dark Matter,Master Green,Efreeti,Sweet Stuff,Mr P Umpkin and Haboki were cut from the anime as well also Tiff originally had a crown,two ponytails and similar arms to Kirby as well as yellow eyes also Kirby looked similar to his appearances in the Kirby's Dreamland Trilogy (1992-1997) Kirby's Adventure (1993) and Kirby Super Star (1996) and King Dedede looked like him in Kirby and the Crystal Shards (2000) also as King Dedede appeared in the anime King Dedede is the tertiary antagonist of the anime after Lord Nightmare/EnEmEe (who is the main antagonist and Costumer Service/NME Salesman (who is the secondary antagonist) Escargoon (King Dedede's servant) is the quaternary antagonist but briefly a supporting character. Other villains like Yamikage,Sasuke,Heavy Lobster,Max Flexer/Macho San,Kirisakin,WolfWrath and Kracko were confirmed.

Madeleine Blaustein as Chef Kawasaki is an impersonation to Ed Wynn who previously appeared in The Diary of Anne Frank (1959) and Dear Brigitte (1965) both those films were made by 20th Century Fox who made and owns 4Kids Entertainment.

Ted Lewis as Escargoon is an impersonation to Paul Lynde who previously appeared in New Faces (1954).

Out of all the episodes Makiko Ohmoto (Kirby), Kerry Williams (Tiff), Kayzie Rogers (Tuff), Ted Lewis (King Dedede and Escargoon), Eric Stuart (Meta Knight), Dan Green (Costumer Service), and Frank Welker (Animal Vocals) are the only cast members to've been in every episode of the tv series.

Nago, Pitch and Chuchu were originally going to appear in this anime series but a similar character to Nago named Nagoya made an appearance so the plans for Kirby's animal friends from Kirby's Dreamland 3 were scrapped.
