Great Actor/Director Collaborations of the 21st Century

  • HeyUGuys
Filmmaking is perhaps the greatest collaborative artform in the modern world. It may take a village to raise a child, but it certainly takes an army to bring a film to the big screen. Despite the illusory apex of the auteur the very best filmmakers are those who embrace the ensemble, both in front of and behind the camera. Just as any artist will search the creative landscape for their muse, so too have film directors discovered leading actors with whom they spark, creating something truly special together.

Johns Wayne and Ford made soulful, searching epics together, the many films of Akira Kurosawa would have been far less luminous had he never met and cast the great Toshirô Mifune. Disney’s re-imagination of their 1941 classic Dumbo is a magical movie, for sure, but there’s also a certain reality to what Tim Burton’s achieved this time around. Netflix Casts 6-Foot-1 Newcomer for ‘Tall Girl’ Movie

  • Variety
Netflix has launched production in New Orleans on the comedy movie “Tall Girl,” with newcomer Ava Michelle in the title role following a worldwide casting call.

Michelle, who fits the billing at 6-foot one-inch, will play a 16-year-old who is the tallest female at a high school, where she has never felt completely comfortable.

“It was essential for us to find an actor to portray our lead who can speak to the challenges and lessons that Jodi experiences from a very personal place of authenticity,” said Nzingha Stewart, the film’s director. “Ava’s ability to beautifully and uniquely showcase those attributes stood out to us in a way that we believe audiences will connect with. ‘Tall Girl’ showcases that embracing the very qualities that make you different is what allows you to overcome anything.”

Griffin Gluck (Netflix’s “American Vandal”) will star as the best friend of Michelle’s character.
