Music composer Madan Mohan passed away while working for Laila Majnu, than music composer Jaidev completed the remaining work. This film had introduced Ranjeeta Kaur as film actress.
K.Asif had started a film 1966 based on Qais And Laila and the film was tittled Love And God and then the shooting stopped in 1971. Then H.S.Rawail made Laila Majnu based on the same story of Qais And Laila.
After the success of Laila Majnu, filmaker H.S.Rawail started Deedar E Yaar.
After the film released, Rishi Kapoor refused to promote Ranjeeta. The problems between them were never discussed openly. Jeetendra also rejected films with her. Rikku Rakesh Nath stated that there was a smear campaign against Ranjeeta in the film industry. Many of her colleagues who were against her, spread false rumors about Ranjeeta, that she was on drugs. The only films she was able to sign were B-grade films opposite Mithun Chakraborty. Plus with her involvement with Akbar Khan many thought she was going to get married. Luckily those films she did with Mithun did do well and established them as a hit-pair (a B grade nevertheless!)
H.S. Rawail offered the film to Madhu Kapoor. She declined the film due to contract obligations .
After death of Music Director Madan Mohan,Producer HS Rawail approached younger Rajesh Roshan to compose the music for three pending songs.Rajesh Roshan refused it saying he wasn't worth of sharing soundtrack with genius like Madan Mohan.
"Husn Hazir Hai" reached number one on the Binaca Geetmala annual list 1977, a rarity for a Madan Mohan composed song.
Debut film of Ranjeeta.
After sitting at home for six months after the success of Laila Majnu Ranjeeta signed 3 films Ankhinyon ke Jharoken se, Pati patni aur woh and Damaad. All were released in 1978 and became hits. She was nominated in the best actress category for Ankhiyon ke and the supporting actress category for Pati Patni by Filmfare that year but won neither. Veteran Nutan won for best actress in Main Tulsi tere angan ki and Reena Roy won the best supporting actress award for Apanpan
Rati Agnihothri's sister Anita was offered the lead role. Her family declined as they did not want her in films.
