A spoof of buddy cop movies where two very different cops are forced to team up on a new reality based television cop show, while tracking down the manufacturer and distributor of an illegally made semi-automatic firearm.
The story ultimately revolves around two "men of honor"; their relationship, their individual and joint failures and triumphs. Carl Brashear is determined to be the first African American Navy Diver in a time where racism is rife. Leslie Sunday is his embittered trainer, determined to see him fail. Fate, challenges and circumstances eventually draw these two men together in a tale of turbulence and ultimately triumph.Written by

When Brashear swims from the U.S.S. Hoist, shortly after jumping in, a sailor has a Number 1 Mark III Enfield rifle. While it was in use at the time, it was a British rifle, and the United States did not field it. See more »
Don't you see? I'm not like you. The things I want...
[Jo sighs and takes Carl's hand]
The things I want are smaller. If I just work hard and keep my head down...

DVD includes several deleted scenes cut from the final film:
Billy lies drunk on a beach and is caught by Military Police; the film then cuts to the opening scene showing just why he is in handcuffs.
Carl finds Pappy's dog and he makes a white officer wash the poor animal in lye because carl touched it.
an alternate ending showing just what exactly happened to Billy
This well-acted story of the end of segregation in the military is told through the true experiences of Carl Brashear. Ultimately it is a story of human honor and dignity triumphing over smallmindedness, bureaucracy, and prejudice. Some of the scenes are deliberate attempts at crowd-pleasing, but they are nevertheless effective.
