In 1998, rumors started circulating that former host Steve Burns had died following drug-related problems. The rumor became so serious that Burns appeared on The Rosie O'Donnell Show (1996) to reassure his young audience that he was alive and well.

When Steve auditioned, he had a skate rat-like appearance. The network gave him a call to tell him that he should dress more family-friendly ("Can you not look like you tomorrow morning?") which is what he did.

Blue was originally going to be a bunny, then a cat but they changed it because there was already a Nickelodeon show starring a cat. It was also going to be orange.

The pilot, entitled "Blue Prints," was never shown in Nick Jr. (except clips from the documentary), it was self-released on VHS for a test audience of children to see if it was good enough for TV debut.

In the original pilot, Steve wore a short-sleeve orange polo rather than his famous long-sleeved green striped shirt. The background looked like it was painted rather than having a construction paper made background. The house even looked different.

In March 2018, Nickelodeon officially announced a reboot series of Blue's Clues with 20 episodes and a new host. Filming began in Summer 2018.

Gateway made a Blues Clues edition of their Astro PC alongside a Rugrats edition in the late 90s/early 2000s. It had Blues Clues stickers on it.

After the 10th Anniversary Special, the show branched off its main plot and instead had Blue, Joe, and Sprinkles going around the world, exploring great sights, which ultimately made the series stale and faded away. In recent months, however, there have been preparations to revive the series for the new generations of early childhood. The series is expected to debut later this year.
