Jacqueline Vignolle fills her father with despair: she has just broken up with her... fourteenth fiancé! In order to humor Daddy, the young lady decides to marry someone. The trouble is that Albert Letournel, the future husband, is in his fifties and, as can be guessed, the marriage will be of convenience, nothing else. Another difficulty lies in the fact that Albert has a son, Georges, who automatically becomes her stepson. Although the relationships between the two young persons are tense at the beginning, you can easily guess what happens in the end...! Written by Guy Bellinger

Did You Know?

This film is one of over 200 titles in the list of independent feature films made available for television presentation by Advance Television Pictures announced in Motion Picture Herald 4 April 1942. At this time, television broadcasting was in its infancy, almost totally curtailed by the advent of World War II, and would not continue to develop until 1945-1946. Because of poor documentation (feature films were often not identified by title in conventional sources) no record has yet been found of its initial television broadcast either under its French or USA title. Mother is still a Miss.
1 October 2015 | by dbdumonteilSee all my reviews

"Miss ,my mother" you read well : a spoiled girl,20 ,a wealthy man's daughter who buys a yacht as I buy a bike ,chooses to marry the first to come:it happens to be a fifty-something greybeard (Pierre Larquey);and she also gets a stepson,25 , a medical student (Pierre Brasseur),who pretends he hates her and has her followed by a private detective (hence the title). As my good friend Writer's Reign aptly wrote ,this could lead to Greek tragedy,a la Phaedra. But it belongs to Henry Decoin's first period ,when he was making light comedies before brilliantly turning film noir master .

This one suffers from a predictable screenplay ,not in a league with "Abus De Confiance " ,"Battements De Coeur" or "Retour A l'Aube",the latter displaying Decoin's first foray into Film Noir. However, Miss Darrieux ,as the capricious Virgin who refuses to consummate her wedding and Pierre Brasseur whose family's honor is at stake and thus studies mental derangement, make a nice pair.
