This film is a reimagining of the first Wing Commander video game, which was also set on the carrier TCS Tiger's Claw (changed to "Tiger Claw" here) in the Vega Sector in the year 2654. The TCS Concordia commanded by Admiral Tolwyn is incorporated into the film but this wasn't introduced until the second game, where it becomes Blair's new ship. Ships and characters from later games are left out. See more »
When the Tiger Claw is hiding in an asteroid crater, the ship has shut down all active scanners and only has passive scanners enabled. However, when the sounding nukes are approaching, distinct sonar-like double pings can be heard, showing the incoming warhead getting closer. A double-ping would mean that an active signal is being sent from the Tiger Claw, bouncing off of the incoming warhead, and then returning to be detected. See more »
I regret to report that all diplomatic avenues with the Kilrathi have been exhausted. It is now clear they have no interest in coexisting with us or any other race. It is my sad duty to inform you that as of 6 A.M. this morning, we are formally at war with the Kilrathi. God help us all.

Merlin was also mean't to be Blair's private digital companionmentor. The character was supposed to add comic relief to the film but it was decided that Maniac could fill that position, so Merlin was relegated to a background computer system onboard the fighters. See more »
First of all, I avoided this movie when it was first released because of the bad reviews. I never played the game so I had no idea what to expect.
I should know better...
I saw this movie for the first time on DVD, sat down with a low expectation, and cranked up my Dolby Digital 5.1 sound system. Was I ever BLOWN away! It was more than I expected and the characters were not as "forgettable" as some critics said. I found the performances of Tcheky Kanyo (Paladin) and David Warner (Admiral Tolwyn) were memorable. Saffron Burrows (Angel) was great, except that she handled her "crisis" at the end rather badly. But overall the movie was a treat. I would recommend it for anyone to at least rent this and check it out!
