Jessica Fletcher (Dame Angela Lansbury) is on a train headed for El Paso, Texas. She shares a table in the dining car with a woman who subsequently vanishes, leaving her purse on the table. Then a message is announced for the woman and Jessica accepts it. This leads to an attack in her compartment and a demand for "it". She has no idea what "it" is and is rescued by a man claiming to be a journalist. The plot thickens. She is warned away by an F.B.I. man, but continues to follow her clues to Agua Verde where the woman apparently lives. The plot twists and turns as she delves deeper into a most devious mystery.

Did You Know?
Production coordinated with Amtrak to secure a train for the filming of this movie. The train was assembled to originate downtown, at the Union Pacific Railroad terminal. The train followed the route of tracks to Santa Clarita, California while filming occurred on the train. One car was gutted of seating, to be used as the dining car. The set decorator provided tables and chairs. Construction added lighting fixtures between the window verticals, wired for electricity sourced by batteries. The interior compartment sitting room was built on a Universal Studio stage for process filming. In Santa Clarita, at the end of the line, the train remained on the end siding for additional filming. Location interiors and exteriors were all within a twenty-mile radius of Santa Clarita. See more
