Storyline

Dr. Norimaki is a bumbling inventor who dreams of one day getting wealth and a girlfriend, or at least a good collection of dirty magazines. He manages to build a robot child, which he names Arale. Arale works perfectly, except that she has incredible super powers and a child's obliviousness to the trail of destruction she leaves everywhere she goes. Episodes usually focus on Arale, Norimaki, and the town's strange inhabitants (which include talking trees and mountains, a pair of alien invaders desperately trying to leave, and a Superman with questionable ethics) going to surreal lengths to get the things they want. Trivia

Akira Toriyama gave puns to the families in the story:
  • the Norimaki family is named after snacks ("norimaki" is a sushi-wrapped roll)
  • "Senbei" is a rice cracker; the Midori family is named after colours ("midori" is yellow-green; "Akane" means dark red, "Aoi" means blue, "Kon" means navy blue, and "Murasaki" means purple)
  • and the Soramame family is named after a broad bean (the first names vary though).

The best! Incredible!
29 June 2000 | by ileplanetSee all my reviews

This TV series is one of the best animated series I've ever seen. In fact i think it's the best. It's all so unreal!. The characters are so funny and so odd you can't imagine who could create them. You can see robot girls with extraforce powers; green haired angels eating metallic things; a boy that becomes a tiger every time he touches a girl; a man who pretends to be Superman and hates everybody; an alien with his ass on his head and his ears in his feet; a sex-addict doctor... Incredible! And I also like the way they grow, and one can see their evolution in life. If you don't know this TV-series, you have to see it. Sure!
