A woman is brutally raped by four men, and she seeks vengeance. After five years, she is still planning her retaliation, but her friend and her are again raped by four men. This time, she tracks them down and finally has her revenge.
After kidnapping and brutally assaulting two young women, a gang unknowingly finds refuge at a vacation home belonging to the parents of one of the victims: a mother and father who devise an increasingly gruesome series of revenge tactics.
The film follows Jennifer, a writer who is working on a new novel and needs to get out of the city to finish it. She rents a riverside cabin in upstate New York to work on her novel, attracting the attention of a number of rowdy male locals. They catch Jennifer one day and strip her naked for the village idiot (Matthew) and rape her. Jennifer is later attacked and raped a further two times by the four degenerates, and her novel is also destroyed. But Jennifer recovers, and in her now-twisted, psychotic state, she begins to seek revenge on the men.Written by

Film critic Roger Ebert called it the worst movie ever made, going even further than Gene Siskel who also loathed the film but did not talk about it after he agreed with Ebert that it was easily the worst movie either of them saw in the year it was released, 1980. Ebert talked at length, both on his show and in print, about how the element of the film that disturbed him the most was seeing it with a fairly large audience who alternately laughed about the rape scenes and then hypocritically exhorted the female lead to get revenge on her rapists. Ebert wrote that he wanted to tell these viewers how disgusted he was, but decided not to and simply ran out of the theatre as quickly as possible once the movie ended. See more »

In summertime, the aspirant New Yorker writer Jennifer Hills (Camille Keaton) rents a lakeside cottage in the woods of the peaceful Park Hell Lane, Connecticut, to write her first novel during the vacation. A couple of days later, she is successively and brutally gang raped by three local bigoted rednecks and one retarded delivery boy from the supermarket. The humiliated and abused Jennifer does not report the sexual assault to the police and a couple of weeks later, she is physically recovered and has just plotted revenge against the rapists.
"Day of the Woman" is extremely realistic and violent; therefore the simple and scary story is absolutely credible. The unknown Camille Keaton has an amazing performance, especially in the impressive long sequence when she is repeatedly beaten and raped. However, this gore movie is only recommended for very specific audiences and prohibited to sensitive persons due to the savagery of most of the scenes. My vote is seven.
