Lost Comedy, truly fabulous
12 September 2003 | by richard.fuller1See all my reviews

In the premiere of this show, obviously it was a Queen Elizabeth lookalike who announced the new Redd Foxx show. She would then give Foxx a big kiss, sending him staggering back into the guard ropes.

There was one odd skit about Farrah Fawcett's parents, with Foxx as her dad in a blonde wig, which interrupted the "real" Redd Foxx singing "God Bless America" in a phony voice.

But the rest of this short lived series was a hilarious scream.

When Redd would be absent at the end of one show, Dinah Shore would appear in his place and would read his cue cards.

This would be the first time I would see the skit where audience members are brought in to fill in the skit.

The two skits I recall were Redd on his honeymoon with a beautiful young bride. Redd set her on the ottoman too fast and hurt her foot, so now he had to get a substitute. He wanders into the audience and brings some poor woman with braids in her hair who screamed when Redd tried to bring her forth. Finally she consented.

In another skit, the same actress as the wife was preparing dinner for special guest Muhammed Ali, accidentally cuts her hand and again she must be replaced. Another heavy-set woman with a big afro from the audience is brought forth. She would now be the wife with superstars Redd Foxx and Muhammed Ali. She had to ask Ali about his big foot.

What?

The big foot? Huh?

The big feet?

The big fight!

She succeeded in upstaging them both.

Such a funny show, absolute rarity.
