Carol Burnett To Receive First Honorary Golden Globe TV Award Which Will Be Named After Her
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has named Carol Burnett as the recipient of the first-ever Golden Globe television special achievement award, which was unveiled last week. It honors the highest level of achievement in the medium. Named after its first recipient, The Carol Burnett Award — as it will be known going forward — is the TV equivalent of the Globes’ film-focused Cecil B. DeMille Award, which also carries the name of its first recipient, director DeMille. Burnett will accept the award at the January 6 awards ceremony that will air live coast to coast on NBC from the Beverly Hilton.

“For more than 50 years, comedy trailblazer Carol Burnett has been breaking barriers while making us laugh,” said HFPA President Meher Tatna. “She was the first woman to host a variety sketch show, The Carol Burnett Show. She was also the first woman to win both the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and Kennedy Center Honors.
