BBC Plans Non-Musical "Les Miserables" Series

The BBC has announced that they are developing a new six-part mini-series adaptation of Victor Hugo's 19th century classic novel "Les Miserables" for BBC One and Weinstein Television. Much of the same team behind their recent "War and Peace" adaptation are also involved.

The new production is not based on the famed musical, instead writer Andrew Davies is going back to the original novel. He will go deeper into the original story of former convict Jean Valjean and chilling police officer Javert's cat-and-mouse relationship against the epic backdrop of France at a time of civil unrest.

Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content said in a statement: "Andrew Davies' extraordinary skill for adaptation will bring the world famous Les Miserables into powerful focus for a modern audience with a multi-layered re-telling of Victor Hugo's masterpiece.
