Here Are All the Upcoming Movies in Theaters for October 2016
October is upon us. The leaves are changing. Sweaters are becoming more abundant. Awards contenders are popping up in theaters nationwide. But those are far from the only films opening throughout the coming weeks. Below, you’ll find every planned theatrical release for the month of October, separated out into films with wide runs and limited ones. (Synopses are provided by festivals and distributors.)

Each week, we’ll give you an update with more specific information on where these films are playing. In the meantime, be sure to check our calendar page, where we’ll update releases for the rest of the year. Stay warm and happy watching!

Pure Flix brings new titles to Tiff
Hillsong: Let Hope Rise and I’m Not Ashamed are both being sold by the company.

Ron Gel, vice-president of international sales at faith-based distributor Pure Flix / Quality Flix, has arrived at Toronto International Film Festival (Sept 8-18) with two new sales titles.

Hillsong: Let Hope Rise [pictured] will open in the Us in 800 theatres on September 16 and screens at Tiff on Monday (Sept 12).

The film charts the rise to fame of Australia-based band Hillsong United, whose songs have become an integral part of worship for more than 50million followers worldwide.

I’m Not Ashamed is set to debut in the Us in 500 theatres in October and screens here on Sunday (Sept 11).

It tells the true story of Rachel Joy Scott, the first victim of the Columbine High School massacre, and is told through her own voice collected from her journals and writings.

Once again at no. 1, Bennett Miller's Brad Pitt movie Moneyball collected $1.06 million at the North American box office on Tuesday, Oct. 4, according to Box Office Mojo. After falling below the $1 million-per-day mark on Monday, Moneyball managed to once again pass that mark after jumping 24% from the previous day. In fact, nearly every movie on the top-ten chart boasted sharp attendance increases. Co-starring Jonah Hill, Robin Wright, and Chris Pratt, Miller's baseball drama is a strong contender for the 2012 Academy Awards. Directed by Jonathan Levine, and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen, the cancer comedy-drama 50/50 took in $940k at no. 2. Anna Kendrick, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Anjelica Huston co-star. Directed by Charles Martin Smith, and featuring Harry Connick Jr, Ashley Judd, Nathan Gamble, Austin Stowell, and Morgan Freeman, Dolphin Tale pulled in $784k at no. 3. Bryce Dallas Howard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, 50/50 Kiddie flicks sank on Monday, Oct. 3, leaving the top two slots on the North American box-office chart in care of adult movies. At no. 1, Bennett Miller's Moneyball collected $852k — thus falling below the $1 million-per-day mark for the first time on Day 11 — according to Box Office Mojo. Brad Pitt stars, along with Jonah Hill, Robin Wright, and Chris Pratt. Directed by Jonathan Levine, and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen, 50/50 took in $748k at no. 2. Although 50/50 jumped three spots on its fourth day out, it also had its first day below the $1m-per-day mark. Anna Kendrick, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Anjelica Huston co-star. The weekend's no. 1 movie, Dolphin Tale, was down two spots after sinking 84%. Directed by Charles Martin Smith, and featuring Harry Connick Jr, Ashley Judd, Nathan Gamble, Austin Stowell, and Morgan Freeman, Dolphin Tale pulled in $13.91 million, or about $300,000 less than originally estimated. At no. 2, Bennett Miller's Moneyball collected $12.03 million, or about $500,000 less than estimated. Brad Pitt stars, along with Jonah Hill, Robin Wright, and Chris Pratt. At no. 3, The Lion King 3D added $10.61m, also below estimates but more than enough for it to remain well ahead of both Mike Nichols' The Graduate and Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park on Box Office Mojo's inflation-adjusted chart of all-time box-office champs. Sandwiched between Dolphin Tale and The Lion King 3D, Moneyball grossed $12.5 million, down an acceptable -36% from last weekend. Featuring Jonah Hill, Robin Wright, and Chris Pratt, Moneyball's cume currently stands at $38.46 million. Cost: $50 million. As per studio estimates, the no. 4 spot this weekend belongs to the inspirational cancer comedy-drama 50/50, starring (500) Days of Summer's Joseph Gordon-Levitt and The Green Hornet's Seth Rogen. Also of note, movie stars — e.g., Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, Anna Faris, Chris Evans — took the backseat to a Christian Message. Directed by Capote's Bennett Miller and starring Brad Pitt, the baseball drama Moneyball topped the Us/Canada chart, according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. Moneyball, which has for the most part trailed behind The Lion King 3D this past week, grossed $3.85 million (-43% from last Friday). Jonah Hill, Robin Wright, and Chris Pratt co-star. Weekly Film Music Roundup (September 30, 2011)

Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Jim Sheridan’s horror thriller Dream House starring Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz and Naomi Watts features an original score by composer John Debney. Varese Sarabande will release a soundtrack CD including Debney’s score on October 11. The album is also already available to download on iTunes. To learn more about the album, visit our soundtrack announcement and check out the composer’s Facebook fan page to listen to a couple of tracks from the score.

Also opening wide is the comedy drama 50/50 directed by Jonathan Levine and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, Anjelica Huston, Anna Kendrick and Bryce Dallas Howard. The score from the movie is composed by Michael Giacchino. No soundtrack album has been announced so far. Tmp's Fall 2011 Movie Guide: September

Well, I'm done being sentimental for the week.  Summer 2011 was awesome, but you know what's better?  Fall 2011.  Almost Fifty films are releasing this fall, and most of them look to be very, very promising.  This is the time of the year when the excellent Oscar bait hits the screen, in addition to numerous action films attempting to capture the box office glory of Avatar or Titanic.
