2020 Oscar Predictions: Best Supporting Actress (Updated: August 7)

2020 Oscar Predictions: Best Supporting Actress (Updated: August 7)
While the Best Supporting Actress Oscar is often awarded to an ingenue, it can also be a way to reward a more season performer who has been overlooked by the academy in the past. Indeed, that is just what happened at the 2019 Academy Awards when Regina King took home this Oscar for her scene-stealing performance in “If Beale Street Could Talk.” (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2020 Oscars predictions for Best Supporting Actress.)

While King was clearly a featured player in her picture, two of her rival nominees, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz, could easily have submitted themselves in lead for their roles in “The Favourite.” But the studio decided to campaign only their co-star, Olivia Colman, for Best Actress and this proved to be a winning strategy. Markella Kavenagh is the inaugural cast member of Amazon’s Lord of the Rings television series, as Variety reports. With the show process still being in early stages, details on Kavenagh’s character are being tightly-kept. However, sources tell the trade that said character will be named “Tyra.”

Kavenagh, a relative newcomer, recently made her onscreen debut in the 2018-launched Australian Stan drama series, Romper Stomper, moving on to her first bit of work with Amazon on the Natalie Dormer-headlined updated adaptation miniseries, Picnic at Hanging Rock, subsequently appearing on the Jenna Coleman-headlined BBC mystery series, The Cry.

‘Younger’ Star Miriam Shor on Directing That Dinner Party Scene and Its ‘Intimate’ Garlicky Secret

  • The Wrap
(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Wednesday’s episode of “Younger”)

You might have noticed you saw less of Diana Trout on tonight’s “Younger,” and that’s because Miriam Shor, the actress who plays the temperamental publishing executive, directed the episode. So, obviously, she was a little bit busier behind the camera than in front of it — meaning she didn’t take part in that delightfully awkward dinner party scene, but she is responsible for orchestrating it.

“That was the part of the episode that I was really looking forward to shooting, but I knew was going to be a challenge because how do you keep the scene active when everyone is mostly seated?” Shor told TheWrap of directing Episode 604 of the TV Land comedy, titled “An Inside Glob.”

The scene takes place in Maggie’s (Debi Mazer) apartment, where she and her girlfriend are hosting a get-together for

10 Things In Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil & Vile You Might Have Missed

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile was released thirty years following the execution of one of America's most notorious and feared serial killers, Ted Bundy. The film features High School Musical alum Zac Efron as the dangerously charming Bundy, whose murder sprees originated in the Seattle area and moved on to Utah, Colorado and Florida. The film primarily depicts Bundy being tried for these crimes in court, and the effects it has on his loved ones (specifically Liz (Lily Collins) his girlfriend), sparing us from the gruesome details of his victims' fates. While we were busy taking note of the informative and thoroughly intense film, it's likely we overlooked some things, 10 of which we're pointing out here and now.

Bo Report: Old and new fans of The Beatles turn out for ‘Yesterday’

‘Yesterday.’

Universal/Working Title’s The Beatles-inspired musical romantic fantasy Yesterday charmed audiences in Australia last weekend, outperforming the Us and UK debuts.

The Danny Boyle-directed film written by Love Actually’s Richard Curtis entered Oz in second place behind the second frame of Disney/Pixar’s blockbuster Toy Story 4.

Starring Himesh Patel as a struggling songwriter who awakes after an accident in a parallel universe where no one had heard of the band and rips off their songs to propel himself to stardom, Yesterday rang up $3.4 million on 281 screens and $3.6 million with previews and the Sydney Film Festival screening.

That ranks as the biggest opening weekend for a Danny Boyle film and is in line with Bridget Jones’s Baby, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, The Intern and La La Land. Pro-rata, that eclipsed the estimated $US17 million opening in the Us and was well up
