Renee Zellweger’s thriller What/If has moved to the top of Netflix’s latest UK top ten list, while rom-com feature Always Be My Maybe and mini-series When They See Us have also crashed into the most-watched titles.

The following Q&A spoils the events of Netflix’s What/If. Haven’t finished yet? Get to streaming!

By the time the 10-hour rollercoaster known as Netflix’s What/If comes to a screeching halt, none of its passengers resemble the people they were when they first got on board. For example, former fledging businesswoman Lisa is finally owning her power, ascending to the ranks of Anne Montgomery, who has faked her own death and is now living abroad — as a brunette!

Meanwhile, Todd and Angela are starting a new life with their family after putting Ian down once and for all,

‘What / If’: The Ending Isn’t All That Matters in Season 1, But Boy Is It Grand

[Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for the ending of “What / If” Season 1, streaming now on Netflix.]

What if the ending to “What / If” was bad? Not in the “so bad it’s good” way that drives the first season to juicy, melodramatic glory, but the normal kind of bad, where expectations aren’t met, disappointment ensues, and enraged fans take to the internet demanding a remake. Doubt hung over the middle of the season like the stubborn cloud casting permanent blackness over Imogen’s offices. After getting so caught up in Mike Kelley’s throwback thriller, what if all that time watching was for naught? What if the payoff couldn’t match the buildup? What if “What / If” was just another twisty bit of fun that ran out of gas at the finish?

Those who’ve made it through the 10 episodes know this not to be the case. Benefitting from an anthology structure that allowed for a fixed ending, “What / If” came to a dramatic,

Renee Zellweger and Mike Kelley on Deconstructing Fate and Consequences in ‘What/If’

  • Variety
Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “What/If,” streaming now on Netflix.

Writer and executive producer Mike Kelley’s latest piece of dramatic storytelling is a limited series morality tale that starts with a high-powered, wealthy woman named Anne Montgomery (Renee Zellweger) offering Lisa, a young woman with a startup (Jane Levy), the investment she needs — if she gives her one night with her husband Sean (Blake Jenner). What goes on during that evening will be protected by a non-disclosure agreement, and if he breaks the terms and shares the details, Anne will take control of the company. But that is just the tip of the iceberg for “What/If.”

While Kelley says the 1993 film “Indecent Proposal” was very much his “jumping off point” for this story, he was inspired by other “social thrillers” of the 1980s and 1990s, including “Fatal Attraction.” Borrowing from a traditional film’s structure,

What/If Creator Reveals the Inspiration Behind Renee Zellweger's Netflix Villain

Summer may not technically start for another month, but Netflix has already given us our first sudsy beach “read” in What/If, a 10-episode social thriller from the mind of Revenge creator Mike Kelley. The twisted series also marks Renee Zellweger‘s major television debut, as she steps into the role of vindictive seductress Anne Montgomery.

“I’ve been thinking about this character for a long time,” Kelley tells TVLine. “She was born out of my slightly unhealthy obsession with all things Mrs. Robinson. That character is so powerful and witty and compelling, but also tragic. The Graduate was my first real movie obsession,

"Now that you're on the brink of greatness, are there still limitations on what you'd be willing to sacrifice?" Anne seductively asks Lisa, as her husband looks on. "In this case, a night alone with your husband. Would that be an acceptable condition of a firm offer to finance your company?"

From there Anne's mysterious (and dubious) offer presumably spins out of control. Judging

‘What/If’ Trailer: Renee Zellweger Shoots an Arrow at Jane Levy’s Head – and That’s the Least Insane Part (Video)

In the new trailer for Netflix’s neo-noir social thriller, “What/If,” Renée Zellweger shoots an arrow at Jane Levy’s head — and misses, thankfully — but that’s maybe the least insane thing that happens in the two-minute, 27-second preview for the upcoming show that “explores the ripple effects of what happens when acceptable people start doing unacceptable things.”

Per Netflix, the first season of “What/If” focuses on a mysterious woman’s (Zellweger) lucrative, but dubious offer to a cash-strapped pair of San Francisco newlyweds.

Watch the trailer above to see just how dubious that all gets as multiple people are playing with fire here in Zellweger’s character’s very dangerous game.
