Carla Renata is a native of St. Louis, Missouri and a graduate of Howard University, where she obtained a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism with some post-grad work in Writing/Public Relations at UCLA (University of California Los Angeles)

She made history becoming the ONLY actress to have recurred on "four" network shows simultaneously in one episodic season Twice. She is currently recurring on the hit NBC sitcom "Superstore"

An Emmy Nominated VO artist, Carla has been seen and/or heard in numerous promo campaigns, video games and national commercials. As well as, on Broadway, with including "Gary Coleman" (yes, that Gary Coleman) in the Tony Award Winning musical "Avenue Q" and The Lion King to name a few.

She is a film critic Black Hollywood Live and a member of BFCA (Broadcast Film Critics Association), AAFCA (African American Film Critics Association) and a Rotten Tomatoes approved critic. She is the creator and Host of The Curvy Critic with Carla Renata, which streams live at BHL Online Sunday 5pm PST.

The Miss America Pageant provided Carla with scholarship funds to complete education for her BA at Howard University. Since she graduated before her reign was over, she was awarded the remainder of the funds in cash. This allowed her to move to New York, where she booked her first Broadway show with Matthew Broderick and Megan Mullally in the revival of "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying".
Graduated from Howard University with a degree in Broadcast Production and did some post grad work at UCLA for writing and public relations.
Mother is a RN and Father is a retired Marine.
Was a "military brat" and as an adult traveled the world to entertain the US troops for the USO/DOD.
Was a back-up singer for Tracy Chapman, Michael Bolton and late Phoebe Snow.
Is a Host/Creator of Black Tomatoes at Black Hollywood Live, former Co-Host/Film Critic at On-Air With Tony Sweet on UBNRadio.com. . As a member of African American Film Critics Association and the Los Angeles Online Film Critics Society , her reviews can be found at TheCurvyFilmCritic.com and has graced the red-carpet for the Oscars, Sundance Film Festival, Los Angeles Film Festival, LeFemme Film Festival, Pan African Film and Arts Festival and numerous premieres and junkets.
