Beer Company BrewDog Debuts Streaming-Video Service in Latest Niche Svod Move

  • Variety
Netflix has been spending money on streaming-video content like, well, a drunken sailor. Now comes a subscription VOD product from a Scottish beer-brewing company that’s geared around a tippling lifestyle — with a show lineup that includes such fare as “Are You Smarter Than a Drunk Person?” and “Four Sheets.”

Indie brewery BrewDog is launching the BrewDog Network, with several hundred hours of programming spanning craft beer, cocktails, food, travel, comedy, game shows, and documentaries. The Svod service, priced at $4.99 monthly, features 14 original series at launch, including “The BrewDog Show,” a reboot of the TV series that previously aired on NBCUniversal’s Esquire Network (which shut down in early 2017).

The Svod service is available worldwide on Android and iOS devices and online at brewdognetwork.com. The five-bucks-per-month fee, the company noted, is less than the price of a pint of its beer.

The new “BrewDog Show” features James Watt (above

Yes, Really: Scotland-Based Brewery BrewDogs Launches Its Own Streaming Network

  • The Wrap
The television space is more crowded than ever, and we may have our most surprising addition to the ever-expanding landscape: A brewery.

Yes, you read that correctly. Scotland-based craft brewery BrewDog, is launching its own streaming network, The BrewDog Network, that’ll cost $4.99 a month, or less than a pint of beer.

The network will be lead by James Watt and Martin Dickie, the brewery’s co-founders. Chris Burke and Jared Cotton, founders of Emmy-winning production company Redtail Media, will serve as general manager and head of creative. Redtail Media produced the duo’s “BrewDogs” TV series that aired on the now-defunct Esquire Network for three seasons between 2013 and 2015.

BrewDog Network Pops Top Off Svod Market For Craft Beer Maker

The U.S. is awash in subscription streaming networks, with more than 200 of them now jockeying for viewers. But the BrewDog Network, a $5-a-month service launching today, introduces a bit of a new wrinkle.

The network will deliver a lineup of cocktail, craft beer, culinary and travel shows — not from a traditional TV programmer’s perspective, but from that of a seasoned brand marketer. BrewDog is a craft beer maker with U.S. headquarters in Columbus, Ohio, and since starting out in 2007 has secured distribution in 60 worldwide markets.

BrewDog co-founders James Watt and Martin Dickie got a taste of TV by hosting their own show, Brew Dogs on the Esquire Network. After NBCUniversal pulled the plug on the short-lived venture, the pair decided to forge ahead with a 24/7 network conveying the spirit of that show, which had developed an avid following.

In a press release, the execs called BrewDog Network

The 10 best web series of 2013

From surreal sci-fi invasion comedy The Power Inside to hard-hitting death row documentary One for Ten, it has been an eclectic but wonderful year for web TV series

If television is the brash younger sibling of cinema, then online web series are its screaming newborn grandchildren. As it's a medium still very much in its infancy, a whole host of questions remain unanswered. How long should an episode be? How do you keep fickle viewers coming back for more? Will they ever make any money? Until those answers are found, online filmmakers will continue to explore the possibilities of the nascent form, occasionally with wonderful results. Here are the best examples from 2013.

The Power Inside

When Earth is invaded by a plague of killer moustaches, an ageing barber (Harvey Keitel) and his downtrodden sidekick (Submarine's Craig Roberts) are humanity's last line of defence against the extra-terrestrial facefuzz.

An anti-hipster sci-fi comedy,

Rob Riggle And Fellow Actors Put Down Web Series, Star In Web Series

Rob Riggle doesn't think to fondly of web series. He and several other noted Hollywood comedians recently released a video through Conan's TeamCoco YouTube channel in support of their cause, Real Actors Against Web Videos. "In a way it's good that people can go out there and make their own thing," says former SNL actor Horatio Sanz in the mock PSA, "But also, most people are s**t." After establishing his distaste for web videos, Riggle has moved on to the logical next step: starring in a web series. Riggle and his funny friends are the stars of Coogan Auto, a new offering on the Loud channel that brings Riggle's trademark lowbrow sensibilities to YouTube. In the first episode, we get to meet the employees of the titular auto shop, which include Riggle, Sanz, Parks and Recreation's Alison Becker, and, most importantly to me, Jb Smoove, best known

Cool Videos: The Hungry Games

  • JoBlo
Payman Benz, the gentleman director behind such cinematic lampoons as Bavatar and Fakeboring Nightvisioncrap 2, returns with a parody that might have you bursting - literally - at the seams: The Hungry Games. Starring Alison Becker ("Parks and Recreation"), Erin Gibson ("Parks and Recreation"), Ryan Lee (Super 8) and Nick Krause (The Descendants), The Hungry Games is a shot-for-shot parody of The Hunger Games' first trailer. Does it, like it did to me, make you want a donut? If you see a cool video online you think would be perfect for this spotlight, drop us a line at yourvideos@joblo.com.

Do You Have an Appetite For 'Hungry Games'?

If you look back it really was inevitable that someone was going to take the title "The Hunger Games" literally, and lo and behold here it is.

Yahoo! is getting into the parody business with a weekly comedy series called "SketchY" (The "Y" is the Yahoo! "Y") and they've done a virtual shot-for-shot remake of the "Hunger Games" trailer with a tasty twist: it's an eating contest… to the death!

Lest you think that idea sub-mad Magazine juvenile, "Hungry Games" is actually a pretty clever parody of some of the more ludicrous aspects of the franchise-to-be, including the ridiculousness of Wes Bentley's curlicue beard and Elizabeth Banks' Dr. Seuss-like Effie Trinket.

This short stars Alison Becker ("Parks and Recreation") as Catnip Wintergreen, "The Descendants" lovable stoner Nick Krause, and Ryan Lee, the miniature Tom Petty lookalike from "Super 8."
