‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Showrunner Krista Vernoff Asks Bob Iger, ABC To Drop Sean Spicer From ‘Dancing With The Stars’

  • Deadline
The backlash against former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer’s forthcoming appearance on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars continues to build.

The latest to object is Grey’s Anatomy and spinoff Station 19 showrunner Krista Vernoff, who posted tonight on Twitter.

“I deeply abhor this decision by the company I work for and truly love,” she tweeted. “This man lied daily, to our faces, and made a mockery of our country. This is not cause for celebration or celebrity. It’s not too late to change this plan. Please @DancingABC @abc @RobertIger”

Vernoff joins other high-profile objectors, including Dancing With The Stars host Tom Bergeron, talk show host Chelsea Handler, and actor Bradley Whitford, plus many media pundits. The scheduling of Spicer also launched a hashtag on Twitter, #boycottDWTS, which was quickly picked up by many civilian commentators

Sean Spicer Says He’s “Not Changing”; Neither Is The Backlash To His ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Casting

Sean Spicer Says He’s “Not Changing”; Neither Is The Backlash To His ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Casting
Sean Spicer probably did himself no favors with his comment to CNN that he’s “not changing,” and that his casting as a contestant on ABC’s upcoming season of Dancing With the Stars might help “move the country forward in a positive way.”

Critics on Twitter weren’t ready to tango.

“Why doesn’t Sean Spicer understand we don’t like him?,” wrote Saturday Night Live‘s Chris Redd. “We like Melissa McCarthy playing you. You aren’t it, Chief.”

Said culture critic and former MSNBC host Touré, “I wonder if Sean Spicer is like damn, Sanders got a real job, and I’m over here on Dancing With The Has-Beens.”

On NBC News’ Think website, contributor Kurt Bardella writes today that Spicer’s on-the-job White House “falsehoods would graduate from the trivial to matters of great importance and severity.”

“By inviting Spicer to be a part of the new season,

Jeph Loeb Discusses Developing More Adult-Oriented Animated Marvel Shows for Hulu That Push the Wall

Earlier this year it was announced that Marvel and Hulu were developing a series of animated shows that consist of Marvel’s Howard the Duck, Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K., Marvel’s Hit-Monkey, and Marvel’s Tigra & Dazzler Show. Those will all lead up to a team-up special called Marvel’s The Offenders.

These shows will have more mature and adult-oriented content, and in a recent interview with Deadline, Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb teases the direction that they are taking as they develop these shows. He explains:

"I’m a huge Archer fan, and Dan Buckley, who’s the president of all things other than the studio here at Marvel, and I started talking about how we have this mutual love of animation and also pushing that wall. The idea of doing something that was more adult, some of which was started with the idea of doing Deadpool animated.

Marvel TV's Jeph Loeb Recalls Reaction to Netflix Cancellation and Teases Upcoming TV Series, Disney+ Projects, and Marvel Knights

Head of Marvel TV, Jeph Loeb, is a busy guy with a lot on his plate these days. While he is closing a chapter that included Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and my favorite, The Punisher, all at Netflix, as well as the final seasons of Legion and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., he is going into a new phase, with exciting prospects and projects on the horizon.

Loeb sat down with Deadline last month at San Diego Comic-Con and compared Marvel TV to a phoenix rising from what some were assuming to be ashes after the mass exodus of the series listed above. What we know so far is that we’ve got a live-action Ghost Rider in the works, an animated Howard the Duck, the Marvel series coming to the Disney+ streaming service that launches this November with the newly partnered Hulu, and whispers of a brand new
