Jeph Loeb Discusses Developing More Adult-Oriented Animated Marvel Shows for Hulu That Push the Wall

Earlier this year it was announced that Marvel and Hulu were developing a series of animated shows that consist of Marvel’s Howard the Duck, Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K., Marvel’s Hit-Monkey, and Marvel’s Tigra & Dazzler Show. Those will all lead up to a team-up special called Marvel’s The Offenders.

These shows will have more mature and adult-oriented content, and in a recent interview with Deadline, Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb teases the direction that they are taking as they develop these shows. He explains:

"I’m a huge Archer fan, and Dan Buckley, who’s the president of all things other than the studio here at Marvel, and I started talking about how we have this mutual love of animation and also pushing that wall. The idea of doing something that was more adult, some of which was started with the idea of doing Deadpool animated.

Review: American Gods Season 2

  • Comicmix
American Gods arrived on Starz with a stellar cast and terrific source material, the novel by Neil Gaiman. It had pedigreed producers in Bryan Fuller, who ankled his shot at Star Trek: Discovery to devote himself fulltime to this; and Michael Green, a superb writer with tons of genre credits. It was visually arresting, emotionally moving, and stunningly weird.

Then there’s the second season. Fuller and Green were jettisoned amidst problems with the skyrocketing budget that exceeded $10 million per episode and their increased deviation from the novel. When Starz finally settled on Jesse Alexander to showrun the season alongside of Gaiman, a novice at television production. They scrapped the first six scripts while Starz cut the order from ten to eight episodes to save money and delayed release marking two years between seasons. Kristen Chenoweth and Gillian Anderson left in support of the ousted producers so their roles needed to be recast.

‘An Emmy for Megan’ Is Back, and Megan Amram Says She Won’t Stop Until She Wins

‘An Emmy for Megan’ Is Back, and Megan Amram Says She Won’t Stop Until She Wins
An edited version of this story about “An Emmy for Megan” first appeared in the Down to the Wire issue of TheWrap’s Emmy magazine.

A lot has happened with Megan Amram in the past year. Her short-form comedy series “An Emmy for Megan,” a very funny deconstruction of Emmy rules that claims to exist solely to win its creator a golden statuette, landed two nominations and sent her to the Emmys — where she lost in the short-form series category to “James Corden’s James Corden,” and in the short-form acting category to 83-year-old Christina Pickles.

In the aftermath of that hard luck, the Emmys made a couple of rule changes in the shorts categories, including instituting a two-minute minimum on the length of short-form episodes after one of last year’s “Emmy for Megan” episodes pointed out that no minimum length existed.

(One of this year’s nominees, “Better

‘Cold Case Hammarskjöld’ Film Review: Formless Documentary Tackles Two Topics, Reveals Little About Either
“It borders on fiction,” Danish filmmaker Mads Brügger explains at one point in “Cold Case Hammarskjöld,” his latest documentary. “Some of it is real and some of it is very difficult to prove.”

If only he had warned us sooner.

Cold Case Hammarskjöld” is an unusual blend of investigative journalism and tacky artifice. The film chronicles Brügger’s pursuit of the truth behind the mysterious death of former United Nations General Secretary Dag Hammarskjöld, whose plane crashed in Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) in 1961.

Unlike the rest of the passengers, Hammarskjöld was not burned beyond recognition. He also had a playing card stuck in his collar, which will be important later. And of course, Hammarskjöld was working to protect newly independent African nations from western (formerly colonial) influences. A lot of people had a lot to gain from his work,

Hulu's reboot of Veronica Mars comes with a cast of colorful characters, including one quaint true crime connoisseur named Penn Epner played by none other than comedian Patton Oswalt. Besides delivering pizza to Neptune's partiers, the self-proclaimed Murderhead will pretty much do whatever it takes to get his 15 seconds of fame, and if he looks familiar, it's because you've definitely seen the actor behind the character before if you've tuned into pop culture at some point over the last two decades.

Known for his hilarious television characters, Oswalt has deep roots in the stand-up and sitcom worlds. In fact, his first acting gig was on the Seinfeld episode "The Couch."
