Michael Moore’s ‘TV Nation’ Reboot Not Going Forward At TBS
Turner confirmed Thursday that TBS’ planned reboot of Michael Moore’s docuseries TV Nation is not going forward. That puts an end for now to the project, which TNT originally greenlighted and announced during the May 2017 upfronts. At the time the series was to be called Michael Moore Live From the Apocalypse.

A Turner spokesperson told Deadline today the scheduling never worked out with Moore. Since the series was announced, he mounted a one-man Broadway show, the anti-Donald Trump play The Terms of My Surrender, which opened in July 2017 and closed after three months; and he made and released the feature documentary Fahrenheit 11/9, the follow-up to his Oscar-winning Fahrenheit 9/11, this past September.

The reboot originally was eyeing a late-fall 217 premiere and was to be reminiscent of those TV Nation days (that nonfiction series won an Emmy in 2005) combining documentary and Moore’s comedic satire. The new show was

Busan 2018 Review: Fahrenheit 11/9 is More Hot Air than Hot Take

14 years after his Palme D’Or winning Fahrenheit 9/11, documentarian Michael Moore seizes the opportunity to conveniently flip his title and train his satirical eye on American politics once again. Asking simply “How the fuck did this happen?!” Fahrenheit 11/9 charts the rise of Us President Donald J. Trump and how his victory exposed a country more divided than ever, mired by poverty, corruption, racism and gun culture. For more than 30 years, Michael Moore has been one of the loudest and most successful voices in American documentary filmmaking. That is not to say his work is always objective and without its own agenda, but films like Roger & Me and the Oscar-winning Bowling for Columbine changed the landscape for non-fiction films. No longer...

Any Schumer and Emily Ratajkowski were arrested today at protests against the confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Us Supreme Court, it has emerged. They are understood to have been among 293 protesters charged with crowding, obstructing, or incommoding.

Announcing her arrest on Instagram, Ratajkowski said "Men who hurt women can no longer be placed in positions of power. Charlton Heston movies: 12 greatest films, ranked worst to best, include ‘Ben-Hur,’ ‘The Ten Commandments’
Charlton Heston would’ve celebrated his 95th birthday on October 4, 2018. Born in 1923, the actor became a household name with leading roles in action adventures and biblical epics. But his credits extended past those two well-worn genres. In honor of his birthday, let’s take a look back at 12 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.

After serving in the United States Army Air Force during WWII, Heston made his professional movie acting debut with the film noir “Dark City” (1950). His big breakthrough came just two years later with Cecil B. DeMille‘s big top soap opera “The Greatest Show on Earth” (1952), in which he played the circus manager. Though an audience favorite in its time, the film often ranks among the all-time worst Oscar winners for Best Picture.

Heston later reunited with DeMille to play the Old Testament prophet Moses in “The Ten Commandments” (1956), which brought him a Golden Globe nomination.

‘Night School’ and ‘Smallfoot’ Box Office: Original Comedies Score Big

‘Night School’ and ‘Smallfoot’ Box Office: Original Comedies Score Big
For the second time this year, two original, non-franchise movies, “Night School” (Universal) and “Smallfoot” (Warner Bros.), opened to over $20 million. The last time two originals topped the box office was last spring, with “A Quiet Place” and “Blockers.”

This yielded the first weekend since Labor Day to improve over the same dates last year ($102 million total gross compared to $90 million in 2017). Grosses for the year continue their strong increase — just under nine percent (six percent up in ticket sales) — as weekends like this help to guarantee an uptick for the whole year.

Openers

The two new films both gained from having core appeal and adding to wider audiences — exactly what is needed to boost films that don’t derive their appeal from pre-sold elements. They differ in that modest-budget “Night School” boasts more domestic appeal, while the more expensive animated film “Smallfoot” plays better internationally. But their presence with

‘Night School’ Is Head of the Box Office Class With $28 Million Opening

  • The Wrap
A $28 million opening weekend may not seem like a big achievement at the box office, but for a comedy like Universal’s “Night School,” it’s definitely a win. At a time when only a precious few comedies have found success at the box office, “Night School” has posted the best opening for the genre this year, beating the $20.6 million start for fellow Universal release “Blockers.”

Released on 3,091 screens, the Kevin Hart/Tiffany Haddish film is only a few paces behind the $31 million opening for “Girls Trip,” the previous collaboration between Haddish, director Malcolm D. Lee and producer Will Packer. With a budget of $29 million and a CinemaScore grade of A-, the film is in position to turn a solid profit. Next week it will face steep competition in the form of Sony’s Marvel film “Venom” and Warner Bros.’ awards contender “A Star Is Born.”

London film festival 2018: documentaries to watch out for

October’s festival brings stories about hiking as bereavement therapy, an early portrait of Putin, and the blighted holiday resort with more staff than guests

Curating documentaries can be hard because the genre encompasses so many forms. It can be a political essay typified by Michael Moore, an archive-heavy historical, sporting or musical epic, such as the two recent Whitney Houston documentaries, a challenging dramatised documentary playing with the whole notion of truth, or just a cracking story told beautifully. Some documentaries, such as Chloé Zhao’s recent release The Rider, even pretend not to be documentaries at all. It’s a weird form to programme at a film festival, and it can leave curators open to criticism of being knowingly obtuse or lazily populist.

The documentary programmers of the forthcoming London film festival (10-21 October) have done an impressive job of walking this line. Their selection this year offers

Diamond and Silk Release Trailer for ‘Dummycrats’ Movie: ‘Two Unlikely Heroes’ (Video)

  • The Wrap
Diamond and Silk have released a teaser trailer for their new film “Dummycrats,” offering a few more clues as to what people can expect when it is released next month.

“In the world of politics, stupidity is all too common,” intoned a solemn narrator. “Some people will stop at nothing to take control of Congress, but two unlikely heroes are among us. In the face of hypocrisy, Diamond and Silk will stop at nothing to expose the Dummycrats.”

The minute-long trailer is a mix of b-roll of Democratic politicians looking silly and the duo shouting at someone off camera. An earlier teaser released by the pair suggested that the film will take the form of a Michael Moore documentary.
