In the Heights Trailer: Lin-Manuel Miranda's Musical Hits the Big Screen

  • MovieWeb
Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for In the Heights. This is a big screen adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's hit musical of the same name. It's also the latest from director John M. Chu, who is coming fresh off of Crazy Rich Asians, which went on to become a monster hit. Point being, this has a lot going for it and, based on this first trailer, they pulled out all the stops as it looks like a high-energy song and dance spectacle.

The trailer kicks off by setting up a bit of a storyteller narrative device with our lead explaining the glory days of the Washington Heights. We then cut to a musical number which, in very classic Broadway fashion, has people singing and dancing while normal, everyday things are happening. It doesn't dig too much into the larger story, instead opting to give a general sense of what we're going to see,

The Top 20 TV Episodes of 2018

  • Variety
The Top 20 TV Episodes of 2018
This year provided TV fans with one of the most promising pilots in years (“Barry”) and an all-time-great series finale (that of “The Americans”), but there was plenty in between, too. The following are 20 of Variety’s critics’ favorite episodes to have aired all year, across genres. Of note: while episodes of “Atlanta,” “Barry,” “BoJack Horseman,” and “Glow” exist on generic boundary lines — technically comedies that are, at many moments in these episodes, sadder than they are funny — there are still plenty of straight-up laughs represented, either as tonic for a dark year outside the tube or just acknowledgment that the best of TV comedy is as good as ever even as dramedies and traumedies seem to have taken over the medium. The mix that follows has, perhaps, something for every viewer to catch up on over the holidays.
