No regrets over not getting lead roles: Jimmy Shergill

Mumbai, July 12 (Ians) While many actors get bothered about the date clash of their films with those of other actors, it is interesting to observe how Jimmy Shergill is enjoying the excitement of the fact that two of his films - "Family Of Thakurganj" and "Jhootha Kahin Ka" is releasing on the same day. He works with Saurabh Shukla and Rishi Kapoor, respectively, in the two films, and he counts himself as fortunate for that fact.

"Actually, with Rishi uncle it was so exciting to be part of an out-and-out comedy film. On Mr Shukla, we all know how fantastic an actor he is, and of his contribution to cinema and theatre. At times, I feel surreal. In fact, working these veteran actors helped me better my craft," he added.

Jimmy says he has no regrets not getting to play lead roles. "People remember me for the characters I played,

“Setters Is India’s Ocean 11 with a gutsy exam heist” – A Subhash K Jha Review

Setters

Starring Aftab Shidasani, Shreyas Talpade, Pavan malhotra, Vijay Raaz

Directed by Ashwini Chaudhary

Welcome to the murky world of academic fixers. If you are not an Indian and reading this, then let me quickly tell you North India has a tradition of proxy examinees. Bright doppelgangers who fill in for not so-bright examinees at examinations, answer their papers and go home with some tidy money.

We saw a far less in-your-face film recently Cheat India about imposter examinees. In Setters director Ashwini Chaudhary goes the other way. He abandons the subtle strain, grabs the theme by its shoulders and shakes it violently.

Setters is designed like an Oceans 11 kind of caper where the stakes are not just a heist idea, but the education system of India. Aftab Shivdasani, seen after quite a while, furnishes his cop’s act with a uniformed gravity. Shreyas Talpade, looking like a cross between

The socio-political thriller cum research piece, inspired by true life events, exposes the 5000 crores industry dealing with the numerous rackets and scams that have infiltrated into the employment and education market to appease desperate youngsters vying for limited opportunities in government offices and colleges. ?The film will give an in-depth insight into the real time modus operandi of this industry which is growing rapidly every year, with the director having researched upon real life scams before the commencement of filming late last year.

How Chandra Sekhar Yeleti's films bring layers and moral ambiguity to Telugu cinema

TollywoodYeleti has a knack for misdirection, making the audience believe something while cleverly turning it on its head later in the film.Sankeertana VarmaFacebook/Chandra Sekhar YeletiIn Anukokunda Oka Roju (2005), Yeleti’s second outing, a song—poignantly written by Sirivennela—plays in the background, close to the climax, that tries to underline the film’s conflict for us. Other than being an effective form of a pre-climax refresher, it also acts as a silent testimony of the filmmaker’s skill. There is a particular scene in that song where Sahasra (Charmy Kaur) is shown smiling at a kid. But then she sees a shovel in his hands and she gets up and leaves, scared. For all we know, he is an innocent boy but to her, he might as well be the next person trying to kill her. In the former portions of the film, we are shown her love

“Varun Dhawan Outdoes Salman’s Original In Judwaa 2”- Subhash K Jha Review

Judwaa 2

Starring Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Tapsee Pannu, Anupam Kher

Directed by David Dhawan

In our country we revere the dead. And disrespect the urge to laugh and have fun. Judwaa reminds us how enjoyable frivolity in cinema can be if packaged and executed expertly.

When a 20-year-old film about identical twins caught in a rough hour traffic of endearing inanity is rebooted, we immediately start getting emotional about the old film which incidentally, was trashed on release. We even begin to treat Anu Malik’s pedestrian tunes in the original as classics.

There is news for all nostalgia addicts. Judwaa 2 is not only a more engaging ode to inanity than the original, Varun Dhawan even manages to outdistance Salman Khan’s considerable energy level in the original. Dhawan conveys a certain innocence in his body language that is the opposite of sexual candour.

What works bigtime for

“Mubarakan is full of brilliantly written humour” – Subhash K Jha Review

Mubarakan

Starring Anil Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Ileana D ‘Cruz, Aaathiya Shetty, Neha Sharma, Pavan Malhotra, Ratna Pathak

Directed by Anees Bazmee

Okay, not every movie experience has to be motivated by a socio-political purpose. Sometimes you just need to have fun at the movies.

I had loads of it last night in Mubarakan, one of the craziest homages to airheadeness in recent years.

Anees Bazmee’s film are deceptively naïve. They give the impression of being casual, flippant, inconsequential silly, goofy ….But sustaining this mood of anything-goes lunacy for more than two hours is no joke…and never mind the gush of jokey banter and situational comedy that has you scratching your head about who’s who and what’s what.

Very honestly I had a really tough time figuring out the plot line and the inter-relations of the characters. We were told at the start that Arjun Kapoor’s

Akshay Kumar Redeems Crime Thriller ‘Rustom’ – Subhash K Jha

Starring Akshay Kumar, Ileana D’Cruz, Esha Gupta, Arjan Bajwa

A picture-perfect naval officer, highly decorated principled patriotic and deeply in love with his wife, comes ashore quicker than expected and catches his wife cheating with his best friend.

Since the husband is played by the remarkably evolved Akshay Kumar we are mercifully spared the hysterical aftermath of an inherently melodramatic crime of passion that shook and stirred Mumbai’s beau monde in the year 1959.

That was the celebrated Nanawati case, known to change the way we look at the laws regarding crimes of passion. Rustom plucks the core of the crime, unplugs the theme of infidelity from its original context and plays deviously around with the facts to create a semi-fiction ‘what-if’ scenario where the characters hurl towards what the film’s writers would like to think of as an unexpectedly shocking ending.

It’s like watching a true-life

10 Bollywood Movies that deserved to be watched in 2014

  • indicine
Note: List published by Ians (Indo-Asian News Service)

These films of 2014 deserved better and should have got a larger audience:

1. Ugly: A beautiful portrait of the darkest areas of the human heart, where greed, guilt and gluttony scamper freely for space. Anurag Kashyap’s film was swamped by the “Pk” wave that hit the theatres at year-end.

2. Aankhon Dekhi: Rajat Kapoor’s haunting portrait of a man on the brink of self-abnegation, looking for reasons to cling to the illusion called life, finding it increasingly hard to go through the motions of existence. Actor Sanjay Mishra’s ‘everyman’ act was exemplary.

3. Children Of War: Debutant director Mrityunjay Devrat recreated the horrors of the Bangladesh war of independence with the authentic passion of Spielberg’s “Schindler’s List”. As a brutal concentration camp officer, Pavan Malhotra was a dazzling embodiment of evil.

4. Sulemani Keeda: Amit Masurkar bitter-sweet tale

Rape scenes not for selling film: 'Children of War' director (Interview)

New Delhi, Feb 27: Wouldn't you shudder at the thought that almost 2,000 women were raped daily over a period of nine months during the 1971 Bangladesh genocide? Director Mrityunjay Devvrat says the purpose of rape scenes in his controversial movie "The Children of War" is not for generating business, but for showing "how men can become animals for power".

Devvrat, in his first feature film, talks about the sanguinary birth of Bangladesh in 1971. Actor Pavan Malhotra plays the role of a Pakistani Army officer assigned to duty in Dacca, now Dhaka. His character oversees rape camps and orders ghastly murder of Bengalis.

Prasoon Shabana trash Naseeruddins opinion on Bhaag Milkha Bhaag

Prasoon Shabana trash Naseeruddins opinion on Bhaag Milkha Bhaag
One of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful films of 2013 was Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (Bmb). The comprehensive breathtaking bio-pic on Olympian athlete Milkha Singh has found an unlikely dissenter in thespian Naseeruddin Shah who has for reasons best known to him, lashed out at Bmb, calling it and Farhan Akhtar's performance, "fake".

The remark has raised the hackles of many notable individuals in the entertainment industry. One of Naseer's old co-stars said, "Naseer should focus on the quality of his own work. After doing Jackpot he is in no position to pass judgment on any film, let alone one that has deeply moved and inspired Indians and non-Indians across the world."

Farhan's step-mother Shabana Azmi who has worked extensively with Naseer in some of the most influential films of Indian cinema says Naseer's opinion on Farhan's performance and the film are not appreciated.

Says Shabana,

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag Review

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag Review
Film: "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag"; Cast: Farhan Akhtar, Sonam Kapoor, Rebecca Breeds, Divya Dutta, Prakash Raj and Pavan Malhotra; Writer: Prasoon Joshi; Director: Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra; Rating: ***** - run to watch this marvel.

History is created in several ways. One of them is cinema. And if Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" seems like a near-flawless homage to the flying spirit of India's greatest runner, it is partly because the story, so nimbly woven into a pastiche of drama, emotion, humour and pathos by Prasoon Joshi, is in no hurry to keep pace with the onscreen Milkha's breathless sprint.

The.
