‘Lady and the Tramp’ Trailer: Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux’s Live-Action Puppy Love Leads Disney+

‘Lady and the Tramp’ Trailer: Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux’s Live-Action Puppy Love Leads Disney+
Lady and the Tramp” is Disney’s latest live-action reimagining, only a) this one is actually live-action, unlike certain remakes using fancy shmancy CGI animation, and b) the new film is headed for Disney+, not theaters. See for yourself in the first trailer below.

Per previous synopses, “Lady and the Tramp” is set to tell the story of an upper-middle-class American cocker spaniel named Lady (voiced by Tessa Thompson) who meets a street-smart, stray mongrel called the Tramp (Justin Theroux), and the two embark on many romantic adventures together — which will of course include the iconic spaghetti smooch scene from the original film.

With a script by Andrew Bujalski (“Support the Girls”), the new film could find fresh footing in the class disparities these two adorable puppers represent. Bujalski balanced similar inequality issues with a great deal of exuberant fun in his critically hailed 2018 film (starring Regina Hall), so perhaps

‘Filthy Rich’s Tate Taylor Hopes Evangelical Fox Series Will “Polarize In The Best Way Possible”, Talks Potential Guest Stars – TCA
Filthy Rich has had quite a journey to get to Fox, but now that it is set to premiere at the beginning of 2020, show creator Tate Taylor is ready for the masses to see it — and he hopes that it will spark conversation in the current social climate.

“Anything I do, whether it is film or television, I like to bring together people with vast differences,” Taylor tells Deadline. “To have Fox be so brave to make a show about faith and religion and the difference we have in America but not do it in a satirical or bias way — that’s what I am most excited about. There’s no right or wrong. It’s not pro or anti-Christian.”

Written and directed by Taylor, Filthy Rich, based on the New Zealand series of the same name from Filthy Productions, is a southern Gothic family drama in which wealth,

Host Arnold Schwarzenegger Takes Swipes At Donald Trump As HFPA Delivers $3.8 Million At Annual Grants Banquet

  • Deadline
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, using money from the license fees it gets from NBC for the Golden Globes, gave away $3.8 million to 74 entertainment-related nonprofit organizations, scholarship programs, film-restoration and humanitarian groups Wednesday night at its annual Grants Banquet at the Beverly Wilshire. It’s part of the HFPA’s year-round efforts in this philanthropic area. President Lorenzo Soria said the total is now nearly $7 million in 2019 alone. In the past 25 years, the organization has donated $37.5 million.

Host Arnold Schwarzenegger got things rolling by giving a chief reason why he was chosen as M.C. – and taking a veiled swipe at President Donald Trump in the process. “I have a special connection to the HFPA because I am actually foreign,” the actor said. “And I have chosen not to ‘go back to my country’ but stay here, live here and make a difference here. And to me, that is what makes America great.

Inside HFPA Grants Banquet: Philanthropy, Trump Jokes and a Ben Platt-Beanie Feldstein Duet

  • Variety
Though the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s annual grants banquet was held at the same time as CNN’s second night of Democratic presidential debates, politically minded guests got their fix there in the ballroom of the Beverly Wilshire hotel when Arnold Schwarzenegger took several jabs at President Donald Trump.

Schwarzenegger kicked things off by recalling how HFPA journalists recently asked him to comment on the commander in chief. The “Terminator” star declined because, in his words, “I have nothing nice to say about the guy.”

The former California governor and “Celebrity Apprentice” host also denounced the idea that it’s possible to be a “self-made man,” (something that Trump has oft claimed to be) when one takes into account all the people it takes to becoming Mr. Universe or running a successful political campaign.

“You can call me anything you want, but don’t ever call me a ‘self-made man,

Comedy is one of my favorite genres in television and film — at its best, it serves as a necessary social commentary and delivers that commentary in a humorous, digestible manner. However, a poorly made comedy is unbearable; not only do they either have nothing to say or fail at delivering their message, it’s simply […]

‘Shaft’ Review (Netflix)

  • Nerdly
Stars: Jessie T. Usher, Samuel L. Jackson, Alexandra Shipp, Richard Roundtree, Regina Hall, Matt Lauria, Titus Welliver, Method Man | Written by Kenya Barris, Alex Barnow | Directed by Tim Story

Shaft, directed by Tim Story, is a sequel to the film of the same name directed by John Singleton in 2000, while also serving as an indirect sequel to the Gordon Parks film of the same name, released in 1971. Shaft (2019) follows J.J. Shaft played by Jessie T. Usher as he is pulled into the world of private investigation with the suspicious death of his best friend to a heroin overdose. Entangled with his estranged father John Shaft (Samuel L. Jackson) the father and son team-up travel on a bonding journey and dive deep into the investigation that hides a far greater consequence than they both realise.

It isn’t far-fetched to entertain the idea that anyone watching this isn’t here for the plot.

Long Awkward Pause: Andrew Bujalski Talks "Mutual Appreciation"

Andrew Bujalski's Mutual Appreciation (2005) is showing June 14 - July 13, 2019 on Mubi in the United States in a new restoration.Andrew Bujalski premiered his second film Mutual Appreciation at SXSW in 2005. Around the same time, his first—Funny Ha Ha—had its official theatrical release, a few years after it had premiered. The two films made their impression on rising independent filmmakers, bringing a focus on naturalistic conversation and self-reflecting portrayals of twenty-somethings that differed from the voicings of Generation X prior. Bujalski also appeared in Joe Swanberg’s seminal Hannah Takes the Stairs (2007), alongside a then-unknown Greta Gerwig, and despite the under-recognition of those early films in the mid-2000s, it’s easy to see how they laid the foundations for the wider success and cultural impact of Swanberg’s Easy (2016–2019) and the Gerwig-penned Frances Ha (2012) and Lady Bird (2017). Bujalski’s most recent—Support the Girls (2018)—earned him and

Support the Girls review – bar boss calls time on her dodgy clientele

Regina Hall is terrific as a manager looking after her young, vulnerable staff while dealing with trouble at home

Regina Hall rules the screen in writer-director Andrew Bujalski’s likable, offbeat contemporary reworking of the 9 to 5 template. She plays Lisa, the manager of a neighbourhood bar in Texas where the waitresses are forced to wear skimpy outfits and flirt with the dodgy, good ol’ boy clientele. This has the toe-curling name of Double Whammies but insists on seeing itself as a family place with a safely naughty vibe.

Lisa is a tough professional who keeps the show on the road while maintaining a protective love and concern for the vulnerable semi-clad women under her wing, including Maci (Haley Lu Richardson) and Jennelle (Dylan Gelula) – both excellent – though she has serious problems in her own home life: a failed relationship with a depressive guy called Cameron (Lawrence Varnardo) who has yet to move out.

‘Support the Girls’ Review

  • Nerdly
Stars: Regina Hall, Haley Lu Richardson, Dylan Gelula, Zoe Graham, Ann LeuVoy, Elizabeth Trieu, Krista Hayes, Victor Isaac Perez, Jesse Marshall, Luis Olmeda, Shayna McHayle, Jermichael Grey | Written and Directed by Andrew Bujalski

Support the Girls, directed by Andrew Bujalski, stars Regina King as Lisa. A general manager at a sports and curves themed bar. We follow Lisa as she goes through all manners of problems concerning her co-workers, personal life and societal prejudice. Joined by Haley Lu Richardson’s Maci and Shayna McHayle’s Danyelle we follow the events taking place over one single day in their chaotic lives.

The strongest element of Andrew Bujalski’s film is the sub-textual gender politics that surround the events that occur within the film. Said aspect of the feature is profoundly piquant and progressive with how it stoically develops and showcases said societal and gender oppression. However, such an element is vastly

Support the Girls review

Support the Girls takes place over one rather manic, emotional and frustrating day as sports bar manager Lisa (Regina Hall) has the limits of her mother hen feelings towards her staff severely tested, as she tries to deal with one crisis after another.

The bar Lisa manages is a family-friendly sports bar where the waitresses wear very little clothing and the clientele get to look but not touch. As the manager of this group, Lisa sets the limits from the outset. Be friendly. Smile. But no inappropriate touching and if they’re rude or inappropriate with you then they’re out. Of course, just because the rules are in place, doesn’t mean they’ll be followed. And it isn’t long before Lisa starts to just question why she’s bothering at all.

For much of the film, Support the Girls has such a realistic style, it almost veers
