Ratings: ‘The Voice’ Reclaims Monday’s Demo With No New ‘9-1-1’ as Competition

  • The Wrap
NBC’s “The Voice” is back on top as the king of Monday primetime thanks to Fox’s decision to air back-to-back reruns of “9-1-1” and “Prodigal Son” last night, instead of new episodes.

Meanwhile, CBS’ freshman comedy “Bob Hearts Abishola” and sophomore sitcom “The Neighborhood” both hit season highs in total viewers, while the Max Greenfield-led series also scored its highest rating for Season 2 in the key adults 18-49 range.

NBC was first in ratings with a 1.0/4 in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and second in total viewers with an average of 6.3 million, according to preliminary numbers. At 8 p.m., “The Voice” Top 13 performances episode scored a 1.2/5 and 7.7 million viewers. “Bluff City Law” at 10 settled for a 0.5/3 and 3.6 million viewers.

‘Schitt’s’ happens at the Golden Globes? Our top users think it might this year

According to the combined predictions of more than 1,000 Gold Derby users, “Schitt’s Creek” is on the bubble in multiple categories at the Golden Globes, but it’s not among the top five likely contenders in any categories thus far. So there’s a chance it could sweep the nominations, but there’s also a chance it could be shut out. Some of our Top 24 Users are betting on a sweep.

Our Top 24 got the highest scores predicting last year’s Golden Globe nominations, and though “Schitt’s Creek” ranks sixth overall with 13/1 odds, seven of these elite users are betting on it to make the cut. The Golden Globes usually prefer to honor new shows to established favorites, but “Schitt’s” is a little bit of both.

Andrew Scott has to defy some major comedy bias to win the Golden Globes’ TV supporting actor prize

Andrew Scott has to defy some major comedy bias to win the Golden Globes’ TV supporting actor prize
Andrew Scott, aka Hot Priest, was so cruelly snubbed by the Emmys that even Bradley Whitford is still thinking about it. The “Fleabag” star might get some justice at the Golden Globes, where he is not only expected to earn a nomination but a win as well. However, you may want to think twice before picking him to take home the statuette.

Scott would only be the fourth person this century to win the Globes’ catch-all Best TV Supporting Actor award for a comedy series. The other three are Robert Downey Jr., who won for his comeback on “Ally McBeal” in 2001, Jeremy Piven for “Entourage” in 2008 and Chris Colfer for “Glee” in 2011. Yup, it’d be nine years between victories for comedy players should Scott prevail in January. The situation is even more dire on the actress side: Only two winners this century have been for comedies, Kim Cattrall for

Watch Joker, Pennywise Beat the Giant Shoes Off of James Corden and Other Regular Clowns (Video)
It’s a tough time for clowns. Due to the success of “It” and “Joker,” regular party jesters are getting shut out of gigs, much to the dismay of James Corden, Cedric the Entertainer, Max Greenfield and Olivia Harewood.

On Thursday’s “Late Late Show,” that group of four *normal* clowns are drowning in their sorrows at a dive bar — at least, as much as one can drown with $9.74 between them.

“Man, I hope things swing back around soon,” Harewood says. “I haven’t had a birthday party in six months.”

‘Veronica Mars’ Creator on What That Finale Twist Could Mean for Leo and Veronica

‘Veronica Mars’ Creator on What That Finale Twist Could Mean for Leo and Veronica
(Warning: This post contains spoilers for the “Veronica Mars” revival through the finale)

The (literally) explosive Season 4 finale of “Veronica Mars” left Kristen Bell’s title character widowed and driving away from her fictional hometown of Neptune, Calif. in search of something after finally tying the knot with her longtime on-again-off-again boyfriend Logan (Jason Dohring), only for him to be killed by a bomb in the Hulu revival’s closing moments.

But before Veronica fully committed to married life with Logan — and then that plan got blown to hell — she had to struggle with the decision to remain monogamous when the naval intelligence officer was called back into active duty, and her old boyfriend Leo (Max Greenfield), now an FBI agent, came to town to figure out who the serial bomber ruining spring break was.

Why This ‘Veronica Mars’ Character Binges ‘Harlots’ on Hulu

Why This ‘Veronica Mars’ Character Binges ‘Harlots’ on Hulu
“‘Harlots’?”

With that one word, “Veronica Mars” communicates volumes, most particularly its cheeky sense of humor. In the series’ revival, Veronica (Kristen Bell) returns home to find her current boyfriend Logan (Jason Dohring) has been hanging out awkwardly with her ex-boyfriend, Leo (Max Greenfield).

When the couple is alone, they relax to watch TV, but instead of Netflix and Chill, Logan suggests “Harlots.” This may not be the obvious viewing choice for a military intelligence officer. “Harlots” is Hulu’s period drama set in Georgian London and focuses on the war between two brothels. The series, which is created, written and directed by women, stars Samantha Morton, Jessica Brown Findlay, and Lesley Manville, among others.

On the surface, this may seem like streaming synergy. After all, “Veronica Mars” and “Harlots” are both Hulu series. But if an in-brand plug was the point, then why not call out the streamer’s most prestigious series,

Has Veronica Mars Boss Reconsidered Season 4 Ending? 'Not Even a Little Bit'

Bad news, Marshmallows: Despite the very vocal reaction to Veronica Mars‘ Season 4 finale, Logan will not be coming back from the dead should the series get renewed.

During a Television Critics Association summer press tour event for the Hulu revival, creator Rob Thomas insisted that the fan backlash has not made him rethink the explosive ending, which saw Logan killed by a bomb. Thomas also weighed in on whether Veronica’s other loved ones will be part of a potential Season 5, and shared his message to upset fans.

‘Veronica Mars’ Boss on Season 4 Shocker: ‘It Felt Like Cutting Off a Limb’

  • Variety
Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the fourth season of “Veronica Mars,” streaming now on Hulu.

“Veronica Mars” giveth, and “Veronica Mars” taketh away.

The fourth season of the Kristen Bell-starrer featured her titular character still in a relationship with her high school boyfriend Logan (Jason Dohring), committed enough that they were finally ready to get married. But moments after they said their vows, their romance came to a definitive end when he was blown up in a car bomb that had been meant for her.

“We want there to be more ‘Veronica Mars’ adventures,” series creator Rob Thomas tells Variety, “and you want your lead detective in your noir show to have opportunities for romance — you don’t want to play this soap opera of the boy back home. It felt like cutting off a limb to save the [rest].”

Thomas admits that killing
