Mike van Diem was born on January 12, 1959 in Sittard, Limburg, Netherlands. He is a director and writer, known for Character (1997), Tulipani: Liefde, eer en een fiets (2017) and Alaska (1989).

Graduated from the Netherlands Film and Television Academy (NFTVA) [1989]
Won 1990 Student Academy Award for Alaska as best foreign student film in the dramatic category.
In his Oscar-speech for Karakter (1997), he honored his Oscar to his friend and colleague Coen van Vrijberghe de Coningh. Coen died in the Flodder-studios in Almere due to a cardiac arrest while performing a stunt.
