Brightburn 2 Talks Are Happening Confirms James Gunn

Brightburn 2 Talks Are Happening Confirms James Gunn
Earlier this year, Slither and Super director James Gunn produced a "startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror" with director David Yarovesky's, you know, superhero horror movie Brightburn. And today we have word via producer James Gunn himself over on Instagram that talks have already begun for a Brightburn 2.

You see, what had happened was, a fan over on Instagram commented on a recent post by Gunn on the ending of Mad magazine and said that we definitely need a sequel to Brightburn, and the fan asked James Gunn if he would be so kind as to direct it. Gunn replied with this.

"I think I'm tied up for the next few years with [The] Suicide Squad and Guardians [of the Galaxy Vol. 3], but we're talking about the [Brightburn] sequel."

Now truth be told, I have not seen this superhero horror movie yet so I cannot comment on whether or not I'd

Movie Review – Brightburn (2019)

Brightburn, 2019.

Directed By David Yarovesky.

Starring Elizabeth Banks, David Denman, Jackson A. Dunn, Matt Jones, and Meredith Hagner.

Synopsis:

What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister?

As much as folk might want to wring their hands about the prospect of “superhero fatigue” in our comic book-saturated cinematic landscape, the genre is in a greater state of flux than ever before. Avengers: Endgame showed the truly mind-melting rabbit-hole talented filmmakers can take audiences down, its success proving the storytelling viability of parallel universes and tangential “what if?” stories.

Brightburn, produced by James Gunn and written by his brothers Brian and Mark, couldn’t be much further from Endgame tonally or budget-wise, but it does present its own compelling test to the typical superhero formula, by taking a name property and giving it a not-so-subtle,

Movie Review – Brightburn (2019)

Brightburn, 2019.

Directed By David Yarovesky.

Starring Elizabeth Banks, David Denman, Jackson A. Dunn, Matt Jones, and Meredith Hagner.

Synopsis:

After raising a crash landed alien orphan for 12 years his onset of super abilities open up dark possibilities for the town of Brightburn

A couple, Tori (Elizabeth Banks) and Kyle Breyer (David Denman) , struggling to conceive themselves, adopt a seemingly normal little boy who crash lands in an alien ship in their backyard. In a small mid-western town they raise him as their own son Brandon (Jackson A. Dunn). They don’t reveal his true identity until powers begin to manifest and strange things begin happening around him. Sound familiar at all?

Almost every review of Brightburn is going to reference its similarities to Superman, which is inevitable as the similarities are completely on the surface with zero subtlety about it from the writer Briand and Mark Gunn. There are definite

Movie Review – Brightburn (2019)

Brightburn, 2019.

Directed by David Yarovesky.

Starring Elizabeth Banks, David Denman, Jackson A. Dunn, Matt Jones, and Meredith Hagner.

Synopsis:

When a child from another world named Brandon Breyer suddenly makes a crash landing on Earth, where a family takes him in and raises him. But darkness awaits as he begins to show signs of superpowers and instead of using them for good, he uses them to cause chaos and destruction.

From the opening few frames, it is easy to tell that Yarovesky put a ton of hard work and effort into making this a truly original and unique superhero story. The question of “What if Superman was actually evil?” has been on many people’s minds for years, and this film dives deep into exploring that question.

The first act can be a bit of a drag as it sets up the character of Brandon Breyer and shows him being

How Fatherhood and 'The Office' Led David Denman to 'Brightburn'

How Fatherhood and 'The Office' Led David Denman to 'Brightburn'
David Denman was emotionally raw and a little sleep-deprived when he auditioned for Brightburn in early 2018.

Just hours earlier, he and his wife, actress Mercedes Mason, had brought their newborn son home from the hospital.

"It was very surreal to me, reading [the script]. I'm looking at my innocent, newborn son," Denman tells The Hollywood Reporter of preparing for the audition, which he booked while the family was still at the hospital.

There's good reason Brightburn would resonate with the new dad. The tale from screenwriters Brian and Mark Gunn centers on a rural Kansas couple ...

‘Aladdin’ Soaring to $100 Million-Plus Memorial Day Weekend Debut

  • Variety
Disney’s live-action “Aladdin” remake is on its way to a commendable Memorial Day weekend debut with an estimated $109 million over the four-day period.

The musical fantasy starring Will Smith and Mena Massoud should uncover about $87 million in its first three days from 4,476 North American theaters after taking in $31 million on Friday. Should estimates hold, “Aladdin” will mark the sixth-highest Memorial Day weekend debut of all time, just behind 2014’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past” with $110.5 million.

Guy Ritchie directed the remake, with Smith taking on the role of Robin Williams’ Genie and Massoud portraying the titular hero. Naomi Scott stars as Jasmine, along with Marwan Kenzari, Navid Negahban, Nasim Pedrad, and Billy Magnussen. Ritchie also co-wrote the script alongside John August, with Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich producing.

Also debuting this weekend is Screen Gems’ “Brightburn,” which took in $3 million on Friday and is headed for a $10 million four-day start from 2,607 domestic theaters.

Film Review: Exploring an Inverse Superman Makes ‘Brightburn’ Shine

Chicago – The opening to the 1950s “Adventures of Superman” TV series includes the words “strange visitor from another planet.” But because Supes had used his subsequent powers for good, he eventually was found not so strange. What if, however, he had been evil, and used his powers destructively? The new film “Brightburn” speculates on such a phenomenon.

Rating: 4.5/5.0

The premise is simple, yet could have been so easy to mess up. The creators – producer James Gunn (“The Avengers” series), director David Yarovesky, with writers Brian and Mark Gunn (James’ brother and cousin) – take care to use the situation as symbolism for adolescent emergence and emphasis an outside force (puberty?) as changing the power dynamic within this “superman.” There is so much to unpack in a tight story, there could be a new cinema wing built just to analyze it. It’s powerfully absorbing as well, never shying away from its thesis,
