Wim Wenders in America: “Hammett” and “The Million Dollar Hotel”

  • MUBI
Mubi's double feature Wim Wenders in America is showing in September and October 2019, in the United States.Hammett“You like stories, don’t you?” Peter Boyle’s Jimmy Ryan knows how much Samuel Dashiell Hammett appreciates a good yarn, and as played by Frederic Forrest in Wim Wenders’ Hammett (1982), the German director’s first American feature, this renowned writer is about to get mixed up in a doozy. The scene is 1928 San Francisco. Ryan, who has been providing fodder for Hammett’s fictional material, appears in the flesh, swiftly entangling his former associate in a mysterious criminal scheme involving a Chinese prostitute named Crystal Ling (Lydia Lei). The film subsequently unfolds in a knowingly multifaceted fusion of perspectives, with the reality of the crime on one level, seen through the eyes of Hammett, the writer and ex-Pinkerton detective, on another, and the entire collusion realized in Wenders’ self-consciously stylized interpretation.

The Five Best Peter Stormare Movies of His Career

There seems to be one immutable fact when you talk about Peter Stormare: he won’t ever be a lead character. He’ll be a peripheral character, a character actor, and a strong supporting character, but being the lead character just doesn’t seem to be in the cards. But honestly that seems like it might be for the best since he seems to be in his element when he’s playing the supporting character, especially since he has the kind of skill to step into the skin of just about any character he needs to and make it great enough that you might

Keanu Reeves’ Constantine Is Coming To DC Universe This Month

While Constantine, the whacky gothic 2005 film starring Keanu Reeves, may not be a completely faithful adaptation to the comics that inspired it, it’s been standing tall on its own two feet as a cult classic. And it seems like DC has finally realized that fact, having announced that the supernatural thriller will be making its way onto the company’s streaming service, DC Universe, this month.

Having just been pulled recently from Netflix, it looks like we now know why. It seems DC’s joining the ranks of Disney in the upcoming battle of the streaming services, while taking their marketing strategy as well. In the upcoming months, we should expect to see more of this, since DC Universe is hoping to be the one-stop-shop for everything DC related.

Peter Stormare to Direct, Star in ‘American Runestone’ Series on the Vikings in America
Popular Swedish actor Peter Stormare is set to direct, produce and star in “American Runestone,” a documentary series shedding light on the role played by Viking explorers in Europe’s discovery of North America.

The series’ first two seasons have been commissioned by the Viaplay streaming service run by Scandinavia’s Nent Group. The starting point of the series is 1898, when Swedish immigrant Olof Ohman claimed to have found a runestone in Minnesota left by Viking explorers more than two centuries before Christopher Columbus arrived in North America.

“American Runestone” (working title) follows Stormare on a personal and often humorous journey through Minnesota to uncover the truth about the founding of America through meetings with scholars, skeptics and sensationalists.

Stormare told Variety that “American Runestone” was a passion project. “The idea is not to rewrite history but to clarify it,” he said, adding that the documentary would also explore the

“Dead or Alive, You’re Coming With Me” – Nicole Kidman in Destroyer & The Greatest Movie Cops

As a cracked lip wraith, eyes hiding in the shadows of a face scorched by the La sun, Nicole Kidman’s Destroyer detective joins an illustrious precinct of cinema’s finest cops. In the tradition of her forebears, Kidman’s Erin Bell is burdened by the badge, inherently flawed, and capable of getting under your skin in an unshakeable fashion.

Destroyer starring Nicole Kidman is out to download now and own on DVD/Blu-ray from Monday, the 27th of May.

Let’s imagine we can take a tour through a cinematic police department, and tip our caps to the sometimes honourable men and women who’ve served the silver screen since The Keystone Cops whizzed around in early 1900s monochrome.

It’s important to note that passing through the holding cell reveals a couple of badge holders who you’d ordinarily find marked out for distinction on a list like this.

What Happened To Peter Stormare’s Sea Turtle Rescue Blockbuster?

As everyone correctly fawned over GQ‘s excellent profile of Keanu Reeves last month, there was one throwaway detail in the piece that I couldn’t stop thinking about. In introducing the actor’s friend and occasional “Swedish Dicks” co-star Peter Stormare, GQ noted that the actor once “went to China and made a movie about saving sea turtles, and then, before the film was supposed to open, the Chinese government decided there was some issue with Stormare’s work visa and confiscated the turtle movie.

Patrick Stewart, Ellen Page to join Offerman's Bedtime Stories for Cynics

It goes without saying that there are many celebrities whose voices are capable of soothing even the most savage of beasts. American Gods” is returning with a new showrunner.

The Fremantle-produced Starz television series based on the Neil Gaiman novel has officially been picked up for a third season and has tapped Charles “Chic” Eglee to lead the season as showrunner and executive producer. The news comes less than a week after the show launched its second season.

Eglee’s credits include “Hemlock Grove,” “The Walking Dead,” “Dexter,” and “The Shield.” He is repped by CAA and Gendler & Kelly.

He will now be the third showrunner at the helm of the series. The New Trailer For ‘American Gods’ Season 2 Has Arrived

Amazon Prime Video has released the new trailer for their upcoming second season of American Gods.

Starring Ricky Whittle (The 100) as Shadow Moon and Ian McShane (Deadwood) as Mr. Wednesday, the 8-part, 1-hour drama, American Gods, is an adaptation from Neil Gaiman’s best-selling novel about a war brewing between Old Gods and New Gods: the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs.

We were forged in God’s image, but the Gods are also made in ours — and in Season Two the battle moves inexorably toward crisis point as the destinies of gods and men collide. While Mr. World plots revenge for the attack against him in Season One, Shadow throws in his lot with Wednesday’s attempt to convince the Old Gods of the case for full-out war,

Starz Releases ‘American Gods’ Season 2 Trailer (Watch)

  • Variety
Starz has released a second season trailer for “American Gods,” which returns to the cabler Mar. 10, depicting the brewing war between Gods old and new in the series based on Neil Gaiman’s novel of the same name.

“When people first came to America they brought us with them,” the trailer begins, flashing images of Old Gods including Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane) and Mr. Nancy (Orlando Jones).

Quickly, the images become more modern and Sarah McLachlan’s “Dear God” plays. “Gradually they abandoned us,” the voiceover continues. “Now there are new Gods growing in America, and they want to destroy us.”

As Mr. Wednesday tosses Shadow (Ricky Whittle) a spear he tells him “war’s a-coming” and that he has a “big role” for him. The trailer also offers first looks at new characters for the season played by Sakina Jaffrey and Dean Winters.
