Crisis on Infinite Earths producers reached out to Nicolas Cage for Superman guest appearance

Tonight sees the beginning on this year’s hotly-anticipated Arrowverse crossover, a small screen adaptation of the iconic – and DC Universe-altering – Crisis on Infinite Earths featuring heroes not only from Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl and Batwoman but also Black Lightning, Smallville, The WB’s short-lived Birds of Prey, and even the 60s Batman TV series.

As we know, Supergirl star Tyler Hoechlin won’t be the only Superman appearing in the Crisis event, as Legends and Superman Returns star Brandon Routh will be portraying a Kingdom Come-inspired version of the Man of Steel, and Smallville’s Tom Welling will also be back as Clark Kent for the first time since the conclusion of the fan favourite series back in 2011.

Well, it seems the producers were hoping to entice another Superman to join the party – albeit one who never actually got to realise the role…

Nicolas Cage Was Invited To Play Superman On CW’s ‘Crisis On Infinite Earths’ Crossover Event

When it comes to cinephile actors, there are few people I’d rather listen to than Nicolas Cage. Whether it’s talking New Hollywood with Paul Schrader for Interview Magazine or explaining in various interviews about how the icons of ’60s and ’70s horror inform his style of performance, listening to Cage talk about his craft is one of the highlights of any press junket. But as much as I could listen to Cage talk about movies all day long, there’s one thing I wish he would discuss more often: his love of Superman.

Nicolas Cage Was Approached To Play Superman In Crisis On Infinite Earths

One of the most fascinating “what ifs” in DC history is the aborted Superman Lives movie from the 1990s that had Nicolas Cage locked in for the lead. Though he’s known to be a massive fan of the Man of Steel – he named his son Kal-El, after all – Cage was such a left-field choice for the role that Supes lovers have always wondered what it would’ve been like to see him play the character. Well, it turns out we could’ve finally got this in “Crisis on Infinite Earths.”

In an interview with IndieWire, Arrowverse Ep Marc Guggenheim revealed that The CW did reach out to Cage to see if he would want to be a part of the upcoming DC TV crossover. The producer didn’t reveal exactly why he couldn’t do it, but he did lay out a few reasons why various stars that were

The Worst Films of 2019

The Worst Films of 2019
Keep in mind that we haven’t seen “Cats.” Or a single one of the half-dozen Nicolas Cage movies released “on demand” (to zero demand?) this past year. Still, in the ongoing quest to find the next masterpiece, film critics inevitably have to sit through a lot more turkeys than your typical moviegoer. Rather than let all that “cinemasochism” go to waste, we might as well amuse you with the fruits of our suffering. Below, Variety taste-makers Peter Debruge and Owen Gleiberman name — and shame — the most ill-conceived, ineptly executed, and all-around disappointing films of 2019.

Peter Debruge’s Five Worst Movies:

1. “Dumbo”

In a decade or two, we’ll look back at this period as the moment that Disney went through its archive, identified its most beloved classics, and rebooted them all as bombastic CG eyesores. Whereas the re-imagineering process has yielded mostly charming results on stage and ice (e.

Film Review: ‘Grand Isle’

  • Variety
Film Review: ‘Grand Isle’
A sub-Tennessee Williams potboiler triangle between restless sexpot, impotent husband, and hunky handyman ever-so-slowly congeals into a lumpy gumbo of thriller elements in “Grand Isle.” This third directorial big-screen feature for veteran Steadicam operator Stephen S. Campanelli has plenty of potential guilty-pleasure signifiers — not least being top-billed Nicolas Cage’s sixth vehicle this year — but the overripe (if underdeveloped) payoff arrives only after a full hour of patience-testing buildup. Opening on 15 screens Dec. 6, it looks to make a much larger commercial impact as a night’s disposable home entertainment in simultaneous on-demand release.

An opening sequence that turns out to be something of a red herring finds Cage’s tippling ex-Marine Walter Franklin roused from slumber in 1988 by a break-in at his rural southern Louisiana manse. The would-be thief manages to get back outside, but is shot by the master of the house as he’s clambering over the picket fence.

5 reasons why Renee Zellweger will win the Best Actress Oscar for ‘Judy’

5 reasons why Renee Zellweger will win the Best Actress Oscar for ‘Judy’
The autumn is a special time in the world of awards punditry. After speculating in the spring and merely surveying in the summer, we’re finally able to screen most of the films in the fall. As we now brace for winter and the first round of nominations and critics’ awards, we have some idea of what we might expect.

It’s kind of like when Dorothy wakes up in Oz and everything is suddenly in vivid color. We’re not in the state of Kansas (or clueless) anymore.

And speaking of Dorothy…

One of the most talked-about performances of the season is that of Renee Zellweger as Judy Garland in “Judy.” Her bravura performance as the tragic entertainer has earned her raves. An Academy Award nomination for Best Actress seems as certain as the smile on Glinda, the Good Witch of the South.

But things won’t be going south for Zellweger anytime soon.

National Treasure 3 Reportedly In The Works With Nicolas Cage Returning

After more than a decade since the last installment came out, Disney is reportedly in the process of getting the band back together for National Treasure 3. According to our sources – the same ones who told us an Aladdin sequel was in the works, and that a Joker sequel is happening, both of which are now confirmed – Academy Award-winner Nicolas Cage will reprise his role as protagonist Benjamin Franklin Gates, a historian and amateur cryptologist who dedicates his life to searching for a lost treasure that was hidden during the American Revolutionary War.

It’s currently unknown whether the film will release in theaters or go straight to Disney+, but either way, it’s sure to be an event that fans won’t want to miss out on. After all, despite lackluster reviews from critics, the National Treasure series has proven to be a box office success. The franchise is
