Votes: 10,658

The ultra-violent ice hockey comedy Goon has no shortage of fans, and Jay Baruchel and Jesse Chabot are now working on a screenplay for a second movie. Expect Seann William Scott to return, and Michael Dowse will be directing again. The film is currently in the writing stages.

44. Journey 3: From the Earth to the Moon

Action, Adventure, Fantasy | Announced

Sean and Hank go on their biggest adventure yet, to the moon.

Warner Bros has greenlit a third film in the Journey series, following the surprising success of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island in early 2012. That said, when you've got Sir Michael Caine riding on the back of a giant bee, decent box office is the least you can expect. Journey 3: From The Earth To The Moon is expected to shoot this year, with a release planned for 2014. Josh Hutcherson and Dwayne Johnson are expected to return, with Brad Peyton once again directing.

45. Machete Kills in Space

Action, Comedy, Sci-Fi | Announced

Voz flees to outer space after attempting to start a nuclear war on Earth and there is only one man who the President can trust to take Voz down: Machete.

Director: Robert Rodriguez | Star: Danny Trejo

The second Machete movie, Machete Kills, is now inked in for release in September 2013. Danny Trejo is back in the title role, and Robert Rodriguez is directing. The pair are set to make one further Machete movie though, with the previously announced Machete Kills Again... In Space! set to complete the B-movie trilogy. Rodriguez won't get to that until he's done with his Sin City sequel though.

46. Men in Black: International (2019)

PG-13 | 114 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

38 Metascore

The Men in Black have always protected the Earth from the scum of the universe. In this new adventure, they tackle their biggest threat to date: a mole in the Men in Black organization.

Director: F. Gary Gray | Stars: Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Kumail Nanjiani, Rebecca Ferguson

Votes: 74,577 | Gross: $79.80M

Sony spent a lot of money to revive the Men In Black cinematic franchise, and given the film's $600m-plus worldwide take, it won its gamble. So much so that the studio has already revealed that it plans to make a fourth adventure, with Will Smith presumably courted to headline again. Whether he'll be accompanied by Tommy Lee Jones or Josh Brolin remains to be seen. Expect Barry Sonnenfeld to be given first refusal to direct.

47. Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018)

PG-13 | 111 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

44 Metascore

Jake Pentecost, son of Stacker Pentecost, reunites with Mako Mori to lead a new generation of Jaeger pilots, including rival Lambert and 15-year-old hacker Amara, against a new Kaiju threat.

Director: Steven S. DeKnight | Stars: John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Burn Gorman

Votes: 94,345 | Gross: $59.87M

One of the big gambles of summer 2013 is Pacific Rim, a massive and expensive blockbuster that doesn't have the safety blanket of a franchise of any kind behind it. It does have Guillermo del Toro behind the camera though, and he's keen to do a second instalment should the box office for Pacific Rim measure up. Outline work has begun on Pacific Rim 2, but del Toro has no shortage of other projects on his slate.

48. Real Steel 2

Action, Drama, Family | Announced

Plot is unknown.

Robot boxing movie Real Steel didn't make masses of money at the box office, but it did seem to make enough ($300m worldwide). As such, director Shawn Levy has been insistent from the start that he's planning to make a follow-up. Last we heard, work was underway on the script, although Levy is a busy man, so further updates have been thin on the ground. It still appears to be an active project though. And Hugh Jackman isn't averse to sequels.

49. Rush Hour 4

Action, Comedy, Crime | Announced

The plot is unknown at this time.

Stars: Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker

Both Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan are seemingly keen to reprise their roles in the Rush Hour franchise for a fourth instalment in the massively successful franchise. Chan and Tucket are reportedly developing the project, although we're not sure at the moment as to whether director Brett Ratner - who has made all three Rush Hours to date - will return as well. Ratner's immediately priority will be his Hercules movie, which he's making with The Rock for release in 2014.

50. Salt (TV Movie)

Action, Crime, Mystery | Announced

The continuing adventures of CIA agent Evelyn Salt.

After looking like it had fallen off Angelina Jolie's slate of projects, it looks as if Salt 2 is back up and running. After a long period of nothing being heard, a new screenwriter was hired back in December 2012, with Becky Johnston now rewriting Kurt Wimmer's original draft. Phillip Noyce is unlikely to direct again, but we expect Salt 2 to head into production by next year at the latest, if it is indeed going to happen.

51. Wanted 2

Action, Crime, Fantasy | Announced

Plot is unknown.

Since we started doing this annual sequel round-ups many years ago, Wanted 2 has been a mainstay. It's a project we remain unconvinced will happen, and yet every few months that an update that seems to suggest it's actually live and kicking. The latest came in the autumn of 2012, where it was revealed that the film will definitely not feature - for understandable reasons - Angelina Jolie. Derek Haas and Michael Brandt were last heard to be working on a new draft for the script, and we wonder if D-day for Wanted 2 is coming shortly. Sooner or later, someone will have to make a call on it one way or the other.

52. Yogi Bear 2

Animation, Comedy, Family | Announced

Plot unknown

The Dukes Of Hazzard director Jay Chandrasekhar is the surprising choice to direct Warner Bros' Yogi Bear 2, which is pressing ahead at the studio. We can't raise much enthusiasm to tell you a great deal more about it, save that it's expected to hit cinemas next year. If it has a poster as memorable as the one to the first film though, we'll be sure to let you know.

53. Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)

R | 99 min | Action, Comedy, Horror

56 Metascore

Columbus, Tallahassee, Wichita, and Little Rock move to the American heartland as they face off against evolved zombies, fellow survivors, and the growing pains of the snarky makeshift family.

Director: Ruben Fleischer | Stars: Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin

Votes: 30,415 | Gross: $26.80M

Director Ruben Flesicher has admitted that the chances of the once-suggested Zombieland 2 happening are in decline, although he refused to rule it out altogether. Whether the news that Amazon is making a TV series based around the movie will help or not remains to be seen. Best file this one as a very long shot, though.

54. Disenchanted

Animation, Adventure, Comedy | Announced

Ten years after her happily ever after, Giselle questions her happiness, inadvertently turning the lives of those in the real world and Andalasia upside down in the process.

Director: Adam Shankman | Stars: Amy Adams, James Marsden, Patrick Dempsey

Just as we thought that a follow-up to the delightful Enchanted was entirely dead, James Marsden re-expressed his interest in the film just before Christmas. At one stage, a director was in place, with Anne Fletcher appointed to steer the project. But time is ticking, and Marsden and Amy Adams are getting no younger. You get the sense that if Enchanted 2 doesn’t get moving this year, then it’s not going to happen at all.

55. The Fighter 2

Drama | Announced

A follow-up to the 2010 film about boxer "Irish" Micky Ward.

Mark Wahlberg is planning to reprise the role of Micky Ward for a sequel to the Oscar-winning The Fighter. The bulk of the original film’s cast are likely to return, and the second film will focus on Ward’s fights with Arturo Gatti. David O Russell is set to produce, but it’s not clear yet whether he’ll resume directorial duties, too.

56. Get Smart 2

Comedy | Announced

Plot is unknown.

Not much obvious progress on this one in the last year, but given how much the first one made, and how comparably economical a Get Smart 2 would be, it’s still more than likely happening. Steve Carell was working on it last we heard, having had a go at the script himself. Anne Hathaway has been quite busy, though, and once schedules settle down a little, we’d imagine this one’s still likely to happen.

57. Sherlock Gnomes (2018)

PG | 86 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

36 Metascore

Garden gnomes, Gnomeo and Juliet, recruit renowned detective Sherlock Gnomes to investigate the mysterious disappearance of other garden ornaments.

Director: John Stevenson | Stars: Johnny Depp, James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Kelly Asbury

Votes: 8,738 | Gross: $43.24M

It seems lots of people are keen to get on the Sherlock Holmes bandwagon right now. There’s the hit BBC series, headlined by Benedict Cumberbatch, the pair of movies from Guy Ritchie, and CBS planning its own TV adaptation with Jonny Lee Miller as the famous sleuth.

The sequel to animated hit Gnomeo & Juliet? It looks to be seeking similar inspiration. Elton John’s Rocket Pictures has put Gnomeo & Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes into motion, with Kevin Cecil and Andy Riley working on a script. Whether Kelly Asbury will return to direct is unclear, though.

58. Halloween (I) (2018)

R | 106 min | Horror, Thriller

67 Metascore

Laurie Strode confronts her long-time foe Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.

Director: David Gordon Green | Stars: Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, James Jude Courtney

Votes: 102,429 | Gross: $159.34M

The remake of Halloween, and its subsequent sequel, did enough business for Dimension Films to want to press ahead with a third film. However, it’s stuck in a little bit of limbo. Halloween 3D was originally set for an October 2012 release, based on a script from the writers of Drive Angry 3D. But it seems the project has headed back in the direction of the drawing board.

As things stand, there’s no script that we know of, no director, and no release date. Just the strong likelihood that the film is still going to get made.

59. The Karate Kid 2

Action, Drama | Announced

After the sudden death of Dre's old Kung Fu Instructor, Mr. Han, young Kung Fu Champion, Dre Parker must learn The Dark Stepstones of how to become a good Instructor and teach his old fellow enemies a little more than respect.

The reboot of The Karate Kid generated both a surprisingly decent film, and really good box office numbers. A sequel was mentioned very quickly afterwards, but it’s only recently that it appears to have gained much traction.

Both Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith are set to return for The Karate Kid 2, with Harold Zwart expressing an interest in directing again. Zak Penn, whose most recent work has been on the impressive TV show Alphas, is penning the script.

60. Top Gun: Maverick (2020)

Action, Drama | Post-production

The plot is unknown at this time.

Director: Joseph Kosinski | Stars: Jennifer Connelly, Tom Cruise, Roberta Sparta, Monica Barbaro

At first, when talk of Top Gun 2 resurfaced, it was dismissed as something of a joke. After all, plans for a Top Gun follow-up had fallen apart more than once before.

Yet it appears that Top Gun 2 is deathly serious. Script work is being undertaken, Tom Cruise has spoken positively about the project, and director Tony Scott is keen to be involved. Blimey. What next? Cocktail 2: Electric Boogaloo?

61. Beverly Hills Cop 4

Action, Comedy | Announced

The plot is unknown.

Star: Eddie Murphy

Eddie Murphy may once again earn his actor’s street cred back! The lovable foul mouthed actor took a detour in his career to become the not as lovable family film actor who relied mainly on fat and fart jokes aimed at subhuman midgets; children. Seems he is going back to the good stuff though with the announcement that Beverly Hills Cop 4 is indeed rolling forward!

62. The Conjuring 2 (2016)

R | 134 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

65 Metascore
