1. Sherlock (2010– )

TV-14 | 88 min | Crime, Drama, Mystery

A modern update finds the famous sleuth and his doctor partner solving crime in 21st century London.

Stars: Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Una Stubbs, Rupert Graves

Votes: 729,600

One of the smartest shows I've seen probably ever. The first two seasons are beautiful, concentrated more so on the detective bits, while the third season has a lot more to do with the relationships of the protagonists. Such a great show and a definite recommendation!

2. Doctor Who (2005– )

TV-PG | 45 min | Adventure, Drama, Family

The further adventures in time and space of the alien adventurer known as the Doctor and their companions from planet Earth.

Stars: Jodie Whittaker, Peter Capaldi, Pearl Mackie, Matt Smith

Votes: 186,400

If you're going to watch this show, DO NOT SKIP THE FIRST SEASON. Nine is an essential part to fully understand what you're getting into, AND HIS CHARACTER IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. If you skip Nine, there's something wrong with you. Now Doctor Who, it's a pretty hecked up show. When Russell T Davies was the director, the quality was unbelievable! The character development, the stories, etc., all of it was wow quality. Once Moffat takes over, it kind of goes downhill, but this is all in my opinion! Some people love his writing, but leave that decision to yourself. It's a great show, and one like no other :)

3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997–2003)

TV-14 | 44 min | Action, Drama, Fantasy

A young woman, destined to slay vampires, demons and other infernal creatures, deals with her life fighting evil, with the help of her friends.

Stars: Sarah Michelle Gellar, Nicholas Brendon, Alyson Hannigan, Anthony Head

Votes: 120,142

Okay just watch this show. Don't question it, just watch it. The story line is just incredible (that's Joss Whedon for you), the characters are so so real, and it just pulls you right in. While the graphics are pretty iffy to begin with, DO NOT let that dissuade you from watching it!! I first watched this show when I was 7 and even now I keep coming back to it. **There's a musical episode, if that helps to persuade people to watch this show.

4. Attack on Titan (2013– )

TV-14 | 24 min | Animation, Action, Adventure

After his hometown is destroyed and his mother is killed, young Eren Yeager vows to cleanse the earth of the giant humanoid Titans that have brought humanity to the brink of extinction.

Stars: Marina Inoue, Yûki Kaji, Yui Ishikawa, Josh Grelle

Votes: 129,326

Definitely a must watch if you're a fan of anime! Snk is one of my favourites, I love the story idea and the characters are too fab. The relationships are super duper important to the story and wow the characters are real, and the emotions they show are so raw! It's crazy how good this show is. Watch this animoo it's amazing. Warning: be prepared for lots of death and feels.

5. Puella Magi Madoka Magica (2011)

TV-14 | 24 min | Animation, Drama, Fantasy

A creature named Kyubey offers Madoka and Sayaka a wish if they agree to become 'magical girls' and fight abstract beings called 'witches'. However, a magical girl named Homura is, for uncertain reasons, determined to stop this agreement.

Stars: Aoi Yûki, Chiwa Saitô, Emiri Kato, Christine Marie Cabanos

Votes: 6,020

From a first glance, this seems like a girly haha "lets have a sleepover and talk about boys" type anime. But ohhhh no. It gets pretty dark and that's when I fell in love with it. This show is amazing, great characters, awesome development, wow wow. Definitely unlike anything I've ever seen before. It only has one season so pretty short, which sucks, but it's easy enough to finish it in a day.

6. Fate/Zero (2011–2012)

TV-MA | 24 min | Animation, Action, Fantasy

Seven chosen magi and their summoned epic heroes fight against each other to try and win the holy grail: a magical device that can grant any wish.

Stars: Ayako Kawasumi, Kari Wahlgren, Sayaka Ôhara, Jôji Nakata

Votes: 8,287

This is definitely more of a complicated show, so I'm for sure going to have to re watch it sometime, which is not a problem at all. The story is really something different, and I love the concept. The characters are all really created in depth, they have motives that aren't always clear, but all their personalities are mapped out and it's just a very smart show okay. It's easy to find characters you hate and love, but there is constant action and it's A LOT darker than I first thought. A very interesting story though, good stuff.

7. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (2009–2012)

TV-14 | 24 min | Animation, Action, Adventure

Two brothers search for a Philosopher's Stone after an attempt to revive their deceased mother goes awry and leaves them in damaged physical forms.

Stars: Iemasa Kayumi, Kent Williams, Muriel Hofmann, Lili Troncale

Votes: 95,308

Yo this show is where it's at. If you're an anime fan and haven't seen this, stop what you're doing and WATCH THIS SHOW. I finished all five seasons in four days, that should maybe show you how amazing it is. Now some people may ask "why did you watch Brotherhood first???". Well my friends told me that the original doesn't even come close to this level of amazing, so to not even bother with FMA and just watch FMA:B. Which I am super glad I did. If you do this, it takes a few eps to kind of understand the world and what's happening, but after that, *beep* Christ, I can't even describe how fantastic this show is. I cried several times, the emotion that is displayed by the characters is unbelievable, it's hard to realize that they aren't real people, just animations. But wow. Probably one of the best shows I've ever seen, ever. Watch this show. Now.

8. Babylon 5 (1994–1998)

TV-PG | 45 min | Action, Adventure, Drama

In the mid 23rd Century, the Earth Alliance space station Babylon 5, located in neutral territory, is a major focal point for political intrigue, racial tensions and various wars over the course of five years.

Stars: Mira Furlan, Richard Biggs, Stephen Furst, Andreas Katsulas

I have very mixed feelings about this show... First of all, the graphics kind of suck, but that's not why I watch tv. The characters are pretty in depth, and they do have motivations to their actions, but the story is kind of like a rollercoaster. It gets really good, but then it's ehhh... and then really good again! So I don't even know what to say about it?? It's worth a try if you're unsure, like all tv is! The one thing I do like about it is that they have that question that is left unanswered, and you want to keep watching to find out what it is (if that makes any sense, I'm not a writer shut up), so that part intrigues me. It's a fairly good show, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if you missed out on it.

9. Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987–1994)

TV-PG | 44 min | Action, Adventure, Mystery

Set almost 100 years after Captain Kirk's five-year mission, a new generation of Starfleet officers set off in the U.S.S. Enterprise-D on their own mission to go where no one has gone before.

Stars: Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner, Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton

Votes: 89,366

What I love about this show is that it's pretty much episodic. There is a story arch, but it takes its time to develop, so it's not of super importance to watch it in order. That being said, the story is pretty amazing if you do take the time to watch the whole thing. I find that this spinoff is much better than the original itself. I love William Shatner to the end of the world, but Captain Kirk was always a bit too much for me. Piccard is where it's at. And it's Sir Patrick Stewart, so I don't even know why you can hate on this show. No, star trek isn't for everyone, but if you're thinking of getting into it or showing someone, I'd recommend TNG wayyyy more than the Original.

10. Defiance (2013–2015)

TV-MA | 43 min | Action, Drama, Sci-Fi

Life in the city of Defiance, in a near future after the arrival of different alien lifeforms to Earth.

Stars: Grant Bowler, Stephanie Leonidas, Julie Benz, Graham Greene

Votes: 38,864

From what I've seen, this show has a smaller fan base than the other shows I've watched, and it deserves so much more. If you're a fan of sci-fi and alien stuff, this is the show for you. It's about a man and his adopted alien daughter, and how they end up in the town of Defiance. The graphics are pretty awful, but the makeup is crazy amazing. It took me a little bit to be 100% devoted to this show (like a few eps) but jesus it's worth it. The characters make it what it is; they are so so so in depth and it's awesome to see how they develop as the story goes on. It's so hard to stop watching once you've started.

11. The Big Bang Theory (2007–2019)

TV-14 | 22 min | Comedy, Romance

A woman who moves into an apartment across the hall from two brilliant but socially awkward physicists shows them how little they know about life outside of the laboratory.

Stars: Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg

Votes: 665,492

This show....... Ugh okay. It gives me very mixed feelings. On the one hand, I love it and it can be hilarious and have beautiful jokes, but on the other hand, it can be extremely misogynistic and that just pisses me off. Even when some of the female characters prove that they are as smart/smarter than the men, there is still that factor that they are "just women" and it's something that I struggle to tolerate. And of course that's not the main focus of the show, but you can't help but notice it. It causes some people to stop watching the show completely, not wanting to support something like that, and then there are others that are completely ignorant to the fact that it's a thing on the show. I don't know, make your own conclusions, these are my opinions..

12. New Girl (2011–2018)

TV-14 | 22 min | Comedy

After a bad break-up, Jess, an offbeat young woman, moves into an apartment loft with three single men. Although they find her behavior very unusual, the men support her - most of the time.

Stars: Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Hannah Simone

Votes: 172,498

A great comedy, kind of a romcom feel, super funny and ridiculous humour. I wish it wasn't only 30mins long!! The characters are hilarious and I love them all to bits. Definitely recommend to anyone really.. :)

13. Game of Thrones (2011–2019)

TV-MA | 57 min | Action, Adventure, Drama

Nine noble families fight for control over the mythical lands of Westeros, while an ancient enemy returns after being dormant for thousands of years.

Stars: Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Kit Harington, Lena Headey

Votes: 1,594,724

The first thing you have to know about this show: There is a butt load of sex (hahahahaha I'm funny LAUGH) and be prepared to have everyone die, including your favourite characters and even some of the protagonists. But besides that, it's one of the most believable shows I've ever seen, despite the fact that it's fantasy.. The story line is mindblowingly amazing and some of my favourite characters from anything come from this show. SO WATCH IT. AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. I love you George R R Martin.

14. In the Flesh (2013–2014)

56 min | Drama, Horror

Four years after the Rising, the government starts to rehabilitate the Undead for reentry into society, including teenager Kieren Walker, who returns to his small Lancashire village to face a hostile reception, as well as his own demons.

Stars: Luke Newberry, Harriet Cains, Marie Critchley, Steve Cooper

Votes: 12,203

I have so many things to talk about on the subject of this show.. The first thing is that it takes the zombie concept, but twists it so it's an original idea, and that's what first appealed to me. The story is fantastic, the characters are so well written and acted out, but one thing that I especially love and respect about this show is that there are gay characters without that being the entirety of their purpose on the show. It just happens to be one other thing about them, not the only thing that they are defined as, if that makes sense. Just to see a show like this have that representation is really amazing; to have the focus not on the fact that some characters are gay, but to the story itself! And that's amazing. The show does have sad parts (that made me cry, oops), but they're really used to develop the characters more, and delve deeper into their back stories! 15. Firefly (2002–2003)

TV-14 | 44 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

Stars: Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, Alan Tudyk, Morena Baccarin

Votes: 230,212

Joss Whedon. Space Cowboys. Nathan Fillion. That should be enough to convince you.

16. Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005–2008)

TV-Y7-FV | 23 min | Animation, Action, Adventure

In a war-torn world of elemental magic, a young boy reawakens to undertake a dangerous mystic quest to fulfill his destiny as the Avatar, and bring peace to the world.

Stars: Dee Bradley Baker, Zach Tyler, Jack De Sena, Mae Whitman

Votes: 199,256

I can say without a doubt that this is probably the best show I've ever seen. Though it seems like it's a silly kids show, the lessons taught, the characters involves, and the story line itself is much more than that. It probably is a good thing for children to appeal to this show because of the things that they teach kids to do on the show. Though it is a cartoon, or anime, there's nothing fluffy or silly about the main story line, the fact that the Avatar must defeat (pretty much kill) the Fire Lord, a dude who is trying to take over the world. Of course the filler eps can be hilarious and definitely the best fillers I've seen on anything ever. Just trust me and watch it. So worth the time.

17. Supernatural (2005– )

TV-14 | 44 min | Drama, Fantasy, Horror

Two brothers follow their father's footsteps as hunters, fighting evil supernatural beings of many kinds, including monsters, demons, and gods that roam the earth.

Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Jim Beaver, Misha Collins

Votes: 359,101

This show is ridiculous, but I can't help but love it. Nice to see some love for the weird things :) The only thing I really really hate is that the writers are the biggest queerbaiters to ever exist on the face of the earth. Destiel is a huge huge thing nowadays, pretty much everyone knows about it. But if you don't by some chance, it's basically a ship between Dean, a hunter (someone who kills the supernatural thingies that hurt everyday people) and an angel named Castiel. Now let me just point out a thing right now that will be relevant later on... Cas comes in on Season 4. Okay so there are countless times that one could assume that Dean loves Cas or the other way around, whatever. LET ME GIVE SOME EXAMPLES: 1) Dean told Cas to "Blow him" when he got frustrated with him 2) Dean tells Cas that he "Needs him" and that he is "like family" 3) Dean tells him to take off some of his clothes because he'll look better that way (I'm not kidding) 4) He fixes his tie all pretty and lovingly for 5) JUST THE LOOKS AND THE BODY LANGUAGE YO. *beep* IT'S NOT HARD TO SEE. And basically this *beep* has been going on for 5 seasons. I'm not joking, I wish I was. Cas has been on spn for FIVE YEARS and this is what we have to deal with. Now let me explain another thing. The directors have said, when asked, that Destiel would never happen on the show. Now after the things I told you, how does that make any sense??? EXACTLY. They're queerbaiting and they'll probably continue it in season 10. People have gotten so fed up with this that they said if it doesn't become canon next season they'll stop watching. Which might be the case for me as well. It's just been ridiculous. But other than that, the show is really awesome and I love it to bits :) The actors are beautiful people as well, which makes me love it even more!!

sUPER SUPER INTERESTING SHOW. If you like Cthulhu, H.P. Lovecraft, etc., you will fall in love with this show, as I have. Probably the best character development I've ever seen and the BACKSTORIESSSS are just unbelievable!!! Resembles Game of Thrones on the sex and death levels, so prepare for it beforehand I guess. Only nine episodes, so it won't take up a lot of time but ugh. It's amazing. Plus the costumes are just to die for. Beautiful show. Amazing.

A gay swimming anime that is the worst show ever and I love it to the end of the world. So much love for this show, and it ruined my life. It starts off hella bad, but actually gets better??????? Is that even possible?? I guess so. It's bad but good, you feel? But seriously it's so gay without it being canon it's weird that it's not canon.
