Oscars 2017: The Best Supporting Actor Race Is All About Being a Great Father
This hasn’t exactly been a great year for men. The male brand has seen better days. The product is still the same as it’s been for the last few millennia — the patriarchy is one hell of a preservative — but its iron hold on the marketplace is slipping. Society as a whole is finally coming to grips with a grim fact that so many people had already learned the hard way, that so many people had been silenced and shamed into keeping like a secret: Men are defective.

That’s not to say that all men are broken, but rather that all men are capable of the abuses for which the worst of us are now being ex-communicated, that all men are culpable for allowing those abuses to continue, and that all men are corruptible when endowed with the power that we have always assumed as a natural right.

Zendaya to Star in Film About Vassar’s First Female African-American Graduate

Zendaya in “Spider-Man: Homecoming

Hot off her turn as a math wiz in “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” Zendaya’s newest project sees her enrolling at one of the most prestigious liberal arts schools in the United States. The “K.C. Undercover” star will produce and topline “A White Lie,” Variety reports. She’s portraying Anita Hemmings, the first African-American woman to graduate from Vassar College.

Based on Karin Tanabe’s 2016 historical novel “The Gilded Years,” the thriller follows Hemmings’ unlikely scholastic journey. The “light-skinned, African-American woman …was the descendant of slaves and passed as white so she could attend Vassar during the 1890s,” the source writes. In this new, elite setting, she’s “treated as a wealthy, educated white woman [and] finds romance with a moneyed Harvard student.”

“I hope readers will be inspired by the theme of going for broke to obtain something that you rightfully deserve,” Tanabe said of her book. She explained,

Why Halloween Is Like Christmas for ‘Lore’ Creator Aaron Mahnke (Exclusive)

But in the third year of the podcast, featuring non-fiction stories about the dark side of human nature about everything from haunted houses to witch hunters narrated by Mahnke, it’s become something of a phenomenon.

“It does feel like people are treating this like a piece of pop culture,” he tells Et of people having listening parties and enjoying it around campfires during October, which he says is the biggest month for downloads of the podcast. (In total, the podcast has accumulated over 96 million listens.) “It’s a pretty surreal feeling.”
