Storyline

The Last of Robin Hood is the true story of Beverly Aadland, a teen starlet who became the last girlfriend of legendary swashbuckler Errol Flynn. In 1957, Beverly was working at Warner Brothers studios with a fake birth certificate saying she was 18 -- she was in fact, only 15 -- when she encountered the former matinée idol. After a bumpy start, the two undertook a relationship that was ultimately embraced by Beverly's Hollywood mother Florence, who became a willing third wheel. The affair took them from L.A. to New York to Africa, then to Cuba where Flynn pitched in with the rebels to make a pro-Castro propaganda movie starring Beverly. It all came crashing to an end in Vancouver, however, when Flynn died in Beverly's arms, causing an avalanche of publicity; Florence finally achieved the attention she sought in the form of tabloid notoriety but the chaos drove Beverly to the edge of sanity. Goofs

When Beverly meets Flynn, she's in the chorus of a Gene Kelly musical (presumably "Les Girls") and he's starring in "Too Much, Too Soon." But that film was shot at Warner Bros. in Burbank, while Kelly was working at MGM in Culver City. It is impossible that they would have been working on the same lot. See more »

Quotes

Cynthia Gould: So, how do you like Vancouver?
Beverly Aadland: Oh, it's beautiful. We really like it.
Cynthia Gould: Can I ask how old you are, Beverly?
Beverly Aadland: I'm 21.
Cynthia Gould: Really? You look younger. I was only 18, when I met Kenneth and we were in high school.
Beverly Aadland: Excuse me. I'm sorry. I'm going to check on Errol.

Wow! Excellent Film!
7 May 2015 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

We rented this DVD yesterday and enjoyed it thoroughly, thanks to the amazing cast, director, writers, editors, and everyone involved in recreating the awesome 1950s retro "look" of the film (super-cool furniture, cars, wardrobe, make-up, etc.) We love truthful biopics on Hollywood's greatest actors and this film stayed true to the real story, which was absolutely fascinating. The movie moves so quickly that there is not one boring second in the entire film! Kevin Kline, Susan Sarandon, Dakota Fanning should all get Oscars for their amazing performances. (Would love to see Susan Sarandon play Bette Davis in a biopic.) I think the real Beverly Aadland would be proud to see how her story was presented on film (she stayed dedicated and completely in love with Errol Flynn through her whole life). Highly recommend this film to anyone who loves the actors from The Golden Age of Hollywood. "The Last of Robin Hood" deserves way more than 10 stars! We need more amazing films like this!
