The Secret Scream Queens Cameo on American Horror Story: Cult This Week

  • BuzzSugar
When it comes to Ryan Murphy shows, you tend to see a lot of familiar faces. This is especially true in the context of American Horror Story, which has a handful of stars who appear in many seasons. But sometimes, Murphy's favorite stars don't even stick to their own shows, and instead jump around into different worlds within the Ryan Murphy universe. Quite a few stars have jumped from show to show: Connie Britton went from Ahs to American Crime Story. Jessica Lange sauntered from Ahs to Feud. Both Billie Lourd and Emma Roberts played a "Chanel" on Scream Queens and also joined Ahs. And this week on American Horror Story: Cult, yet another (though admittedly much more inconsequential) Chanel appeared! RelatedHere's How American Horror Story: Cult Will Probably End Actress Cathy Marks had a small role on Cult this week. During a flashback, Winter watches the final presidential debate

Ryan Murphy’s New Show Casts Five Trans Actors as Series Regulars, Makes History

Angelica Ross will star in “Pose”: Ross’ Instagram account

“Pose,” a pilot from Ryan Murphy and FX, has already made history — and it hasn’t even begun filming yet. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the 1980s New York City-set series will feature five transgender actors as series regulars: Mj Rodriguez (“Luke Cage”), Indya Moore (“Saturday Church”), Hailie Sahar (“Transparent”), Angelica Ross (“Claws”), and model Dominique Jackson. Each of the five performers will portray trans characters.

Created by Murphy, his frequent collaborator Brad Falchuk, and Steven Canals, “Pose” “looks at the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in 1980s New York: the rise of the luxury Trump-era universe, the downtown social and literary scene, and the ball culture world.”

Ryan Jamaal Swain (“God’s Rock”), Billy Porter (Broadway’s “Kinky Boots”), and Dyllon Burnside (Broadway’s “Holler If Ya Hear Me”) will also star in the drama.

“We are thrilled that ‘Pose’ pushes the narrative forward by centering on the unique and under-told experiences of trans women and gay people of color,” said Canals. “Ryan has assembled a strong team of storytellers and innovators to collaborate on telling this important narrative. As a Bronx-bred queer writer of color, I’m honored to aid in ushering this groundbreaking show into homes.”

Up and coming trans directors will be mentored behind-the-scenes on “Pose” as part of Murphy’s Half Initiative. The hugely successful program marks Murphy’s commitment to hiring at least 50 percent women, Lgbtq individuals, and people of color as directors on his shows. In addition to “Pose,” Murphy’s current series include “American Horror Story, “American Crime Story,” and “Feud.”

“Pose” will begin production next month in New York. Our Lady J (“Transparent”) and activist Janet Mock will join Canals as writers on the project. Nina Jacobson, Alexis Martin Woodall, Sherry Marsh, Silas Howard, and Brad Simpson are executive producing.

Ryan Murphy’s New Show Casts Five Trans Actors as Series Regulars, Makes History was originally published in Women and Hollywood on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.

The Terrifying True Story Behind That Lobotomy Reference in Mindhunter

  • BuzzSugar
Image Source: Netflix In the second episode of Mindhunter, FBI special agent Holden Ford goes to visit incarcerated serial killer Edmund Kemper III, hoping the criminal will talk to him about his background, crimes, and motives, as a way to understand what makes "sequence killers" tick ("serial killer" was not yet a term used by law enforcement). Kemper refers to his killings as a "vocation," which Ford takes issue with, but Kemper argues that it's a bit more involved than a simple hobby. "Look at the consequences. The stakes are very high," says Kemper, who then suggests that since psychological help "didn't take" when he was in a mental institution as a young man, perhaps a lobotomy is the answer. In case you're not familiar, a lobotomy is a surgical procedure that involves cutting the connections to the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain responsible for "executive function," which

The Flash: 4 Reasons Not to Miss This Week's Funny/Serious/Curious Episode
The Flash this Tuesday (The CW, 8/7c) turns in one of its funniest episodes, certainly in a long while. But it has even more going for it than that. Here’s a non-spoilery overview of “Mixed Signals,” which was written by Jonathan Butler and Gabriel Garza and directed by Alexandra La Roche (“The Wrath of Savitar”):

It’S Nifty

Yes, Barry got a new suit in the Season 4 premiere. But Cisco apparently has been itching to upgrade it even further, and some of the modifications unveiled in “Mixed Signals” are pretty damn cool (if, um, occasionally problematic). The Meta

For The Postseason: Joe E. Brown As Alibi Ike

If you’re a baseball fan, particularly if you’re a Dodgers, Astros, Cubs or Yankees fan, the real baseball season started this past Friday with the inauguration of the American and National League Championship Series. I’m a Dodgers fan, which means I’m among that group who, arguably, have gone the longest without the satisfaction/excitement/nail-biting terror of seeing their team in the World Series, the next step for whoever wins in the Nlcs. The Dodgers last appeared in the World Series in 1988, capping a memorable run with a championship by beating the Oakland A’s. That was 29 years ago. The Cubs are the reigning Mlb champions, having won last year’s World Series after a 107-year drought. And the Yankees, a mainstay of the World Series around the turn of this century, last appeared in an October championship series in 2009.

The only team to come close

Dwayne Johnson Shades Tyrese Gibson While Teasing 'Fast' Solo Movie Spinoff: '#CandyA**esNeedNotApply'
This Fast feud is getting Furious, and honestly, has us reaching for the popcorn.

Just days after Tyrese Gibson called out Dwayne Johnson on Instagram for allegedly causing Fast 9's release date to be delayed, Johnson unveiled a preview clip of his Fast & Furious spinoff movie with Jason Statham -- revealing that it will hit theaters on July 26, 2019 -- though parts of the caption seem to suggest that the 45-year-old actor may be just as interested in clapping back against Gibson, as well as co-star Vin Diesel, as he is with promoting his own film.

"Pumped to expand and build out the Fast & Furious universe in a cool, exciting way," Johnson captioned the post, adding, "Thank you Universal Studios for being tremendous partners who see the big picture and for coming to us years ago with this spinoff idea."
