"Diamond 13" (2009) works despite the basics of the story having been around a long time. Depardieu is effective as a burned out cop with insomnia. He really looks insomniac and rough at the film's start, then he kind of cleans up. I could watch this one again. He's really up against it. He gets help along the way from a reporter and a young black girl. His ex-wife, a cop on internal affairs, is vindictive however. Corruption reaches high levels in this one, and a drug lord wants his drugs and money back and gives Depardieu 48 hours to recover them. The movie is dark and neo-noir. While there is nothing special here storywise, Depardieu makes it worthwhile.
