Expected another Jab We Met... But got a lousy mash-up of Chalte Chalte and Phir Bhi...

Alright... this was a film that I expected to be a light, sensible romantic-comedy, with some intelligent scenes and witty dialogs. Reasons for me expecting such a film- Shahid Kapoor seemed to have got that kind of act right after Jab We Met, Vidya Balan is a pretty decent actress (though I was a little doubtful if she could pull of a chirpy little city girl act), and lastly Aziz Mirza is an average director and he wasn't attempting anything new, but something that he has perfected over the years...

Kismat Konnection is about a young architect Raj Malhotra (Mirza still carrying the Shah Rukh hangover) who is incredibly unlucky, thereby not achieving anything despite being a talented person. His life takes a sweet turn when Priya lands up in his life as a lucky charm and everything changes. However there's a conflict of interest lingering around and therefore the monotonous storyline...

However, Kismat Konnection is a long (very much dragged) film with very few likable moments, the lead pair spark off no real chemistry at all, and Juhi Chawla is way over the top! The film was supposed to be light with a bit of lucky-charm-magic theme but it tries to be more than that... it changes gears with every passing reel trying to be a socially relevant film (Shahid even talks about Global Warming in the end), an emotional drama and a comedy.

More than that, the makers have clearly missed the finer details, for one Shahid still manages a fairly decent lifestyle (stylish suits, a car and a decent home) without getting any real work for five years. Acting is strictly okay, but you can't really blame the actors for the fault lies with the direction. Guess Aziz Mirza showed Shahid all of Shah Rukh's yesteryear's' romantic films, and asked for a young Shah Rukh act, but in the end we don't get that, and we don't even get a restrained Jab We Met act. Vidya Balan looks completely out of character with a hairstyle and clothes that just don't go well with her image. The supporting cast consists of a whining Vishal, a wasted Om Puri and a fairly comic Himani Shivpuri.

The music is good, but the songs are used totally out of order, interrupting the already flawed screenplay. All in all, Kismat Konnection was a film that did actually disappoint me because I did not expect too much and it delivered even less!
