I understand why some were lulled by this show, but it had some appeal for me, both hitting and missing. Five men and five woman of varying ages and races, are confined to a small house. The element that would've kept me out as a contestant: no television! no radio! Ugh! All they had was each other, which would've made me nuts. But as a viewer for a half hour a night, I was able to get into it. I was the opposite of most, as I preferred this to the dull and disgusting "Survivor". I don't get my kicks watching people eat nauseating food and deal with physical challenges, like some sort of adult "Double Dare" (for those who remember that kiddie game show). I enjoyed the more suburban goings on in the "Big Bro" house. They did have their share of lame episodes (the dance marathon or jump roping silliness comes to mind), but that's expected of any program. The key to the drama were the great Wednesday night shows, where someone would be kicked out. The tension didn't just come from "who's gonna go?", but from everyone pointing fingers and demanding "Allright, which of you voted against me?!". I mostly agreed with each week's banishment, with the exception of the hot Jordan, who left much too soon. As with any reality show (i.e. "Real World"), there are those you like and those you can't stand. I was pretty much split as to who I liked of the 10. My faves were sensible Cassandra, easy going Curtis, friendly Josh, sexy Jordan, and the beautiful, sweet Jamie. On my crap list were constantly crying Karen, chirpier than hell Brittney, sour-puss Will "Mega", out-spoken foul mouth Eddie (the eventual winner), and the excruciatingly idiotic, George, who seemed to lose his mind with each show. For those who missed the show's run and may find it one day in reruns, you will not believe George's actions at times. Somehow, in some oddly, crazily, strange way he did not know how UNBELIEVABLY stupid he looked. I think I set a record for groans everytime he pulled some stunt, while wearing one of his moronic outfits. Thank the Lord above that he was kicked out toward the end. The final outcome was good enough, though Josh and Curtis came away with too much prize money in my mind. The goal of the show was to be number one, not 2nd or 3rd and still end up with a ton of money. Despite me not liking Eddie most of the time, he wasn't an altogether awful guy during the final weeks and when he came out on top. Other notables were friendly Julie Chen as host, Dr. Drew Pinsky from MTV who was ok, as I could never tell if he was reading lines or not. But that was the biggest problem with the AOL woman (forget her name) who would pop in sometimes to talk about what was being said on the internet. With her bug eyes and lousy line delivery, I could have done without her. But overall, it was a decent run, with memorable music and people. I look forward to "Big Bro 2001".
