Phillip Fry is a 25-year-old pizza delivery boy whose life is going nowhere. When he accidentally freezes himself on December 31, 1999, he wakes up 1,000 years in the future and has a chance to make a fresh start. He goes to work for the Planet Express Corporation, a futuristic delivery service that transports packages to all five quadrants of the universe. Did You Know?
Bender's name is especially fitting. He's "a stock MomCorps Bending Unit" - a robot who was built and programmed specifically to bend girders, and he also regularly drinks heavily, which is sometimes referred to as going on a "bender". Those explanations aside, he was apparently named after John Bender, Judd Nelson's character from "The Breakfast Club," of which creator Matt Groening is a fan. See more

During the opening, old 1930's cartoons are played on a giant monitor and are different each time. In the episode "Roswell That Ends Well", the cartoon featured in the opening was played in the episode on a small TV. Also when the title appears, a new message appears every time. See more
