Snipes Sentenced to Three Years

Hollywood star Wesley Snipes has been sentenced to serve three years in jail for tax evasion. In February the Blade actor was convicted of failing to file his taxes for five years. The star was acquitted of tax fraud and filing a false claim, as well as three misdemeanor counts of willful failure to file a tax return. But on Thursday in Florida, U.S. District Judge William Terrell Hodges sentenced Snipes to three years imprisonment. Earlier this week, Snipes' famous friends, like actors Woody Harrelson and Denzel Washington, sent letters to the judge as character references. The actor's attorneys argued that Snipes' crimes did not warrant a prison sentence, and that the star should be given probation. Details of when Snipes will have to surrender to prison, and where he will serve his sentence have not been released.

James Bond Stuntman Seriously Injured After Crash

A stuntman working on the new James Bond movie Quantum Of Solace has been left with serious head injuries, after yet another onset car accident. Aris Comninos was driving the Alfa Romeo on a small and windy road near Lake Garda in northern Italy, when he lost control of the vehicle and smashed into a wall. Comninos was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Verona, where he has undergone surgery for his injuries. Another stuntman sustained minor injuries after the incident earlier this week. A spokesperson for the town of Limone sul Garda, where the 007 cast and crew have been shooting for the past fortnight, says the accident occurred during a car chase between Bond's Aston Martin and a truck. None of the cast members, nor director Marc Forster, were present at the time of the crash. Filming for the latest spy thriller, starring Daniel Craig as 007, has hit a number of setbacks. Just last Saturday, a limited edition Aston Martin sports car had to be fished out of Lake Garda after it skidded off a narrow road in torrential rain and plunged into the water. Producers were also criticized by the Bolivian government for allegedly "stereotyping" its people when they filmed scenes there, while filming in Chile was briefly halted when the town's mayor objected to the crew's presence.

Winehouse Denies Assault Arrest & New Drug Allegation

Amy Winehouse's representative has denied reports the singer has been arrested over allegations of assault - insisting the star is "voluntarily" helping police with their enquiries. The hitmaker is alleged to have headbutted a man while drinking in The Good Mixer public house in Camden, north London in the early hours of Wednesday. She has also been accused of hitting Moroccan musician Mustapha el Mounmi, after he refused to give way to her at a snooker table. The alleged victim reportedly went to police on Thursday and reported his claim, prompting the police to take action. But previous reports claiming the star had been arrested on Friday over the incident have proved to be false. A spokesman for the star has revealed she is due to attend Kentish Town police station in North London on Friday to be quizzed by cops about the case, but will be attending of her own free will. The representative says, "Amy Winehouse will be voluntarily attending a London police station today by appointment with the police. We understand that she will be questioned in connection with an alleged incident in Camden in the early hours of April 23, 2008." Meanwhile, Winehouse's representatives have also been forced to clear the singer's name in another incident, which occurred during a night out on Thursday. The star began her evening at her regular haunt The Good Mixer, before moving on to the Made In Brazil bar. But the 24-year-old ended the night by being forcibly removed from the venue, with reports claiming she was ejected after being caught taking drugs in the toilet. A bar employee tells the U.K.'s Sky News, "She was in here last night. She went to the toilets and was gone a long time. When a member of staff went in there they found her in the cubicle with someone and they suspected she was taking drugs. We had no choice but to ask her to leave and she was taken outside. We don't allow drug taking in this establishment." But Winehouse's spokesman has hit back at the claims, confirming the star was thrown out of the Made In Brazil bar, but denying she was taking drugs.

Diaz Not Hospitalized

Cameron Diaz's publicists are denying reports the actress has been hospitalized with stress following her father's recent death. The movie star's What Happens In Vegas co-star, Ashton Kutcher, reportedly told photographers in London that Diaz was receiving "medical attention," but her representatives insist he was either misinformed or misquoted. A spokeswoman for Diaz says, "These reports are absolutely untrue. She has taken time off to be with her family and plans to return to work next week." Diaz's father, Emilio, died suddenly last week after succumbing to pneumonia. Diaz hosted a service in honor of her father on Saturday in California. The actress is expected to attend the Los Angeles premiere of What Happens In Vegas after missing out on the trip to London with Kutcher.

Hasselhoff Out Of Hospital

David Hasselhoff has checked out of a hospital in Los Angeles following treatment for an eye wound. The actor spent three days at UCLA Medical Center after stitching above his left eye unraveled and left the actor bleeding heavily. Hasselhoff's assistant drove him to hospital on Sunday, but the Baywatch creator was spotted out and about on Wednesday, sporting a bandage above his injured eye.

Lee Honored For Hurricane Katrina Film

Oscar-nominated director Spike Lee is to be honored at the Silverdocs Film Festival for his documentary work, including the critically-acclaimed When The Levees Broke - about the aftermath of 2005's Hurricane Katrina. Lee will be a special guest at the Washington D.C. event, which takes place in June, and will screen excerpts from his films and discuss his work with attendees. Organizers of the festival announced Lee had been selected for his re-telling of stories that "challenge America's consciousness of social injustice". Among Lee's films that have been singled out for praise are the Peabody Award-winning When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts and the Oscar-nominated 4 Little Girls - about the Alabama church bombings in 1963. The festival will be held from June 16-23.

Electra To Wed For A Third Time

Carmen Electra is set to wed for a third time after accepting former Korn rocker Rob Patterson's Las Vegas proposal at the weekend. The guitarist asked the model/actress to be his bride while the couple was in Las Vegas celebrating her 36th birthday. Electra, who was previously married to basketball bad boy Dennis Rodman and rocker Dave Navarro, recently revealed she wanted to start a family with Patterson, her boyfriend of almost a year. She said, "I have pictured myself as a mother for years and look forward to fulfilling that strong desire."

Thurman To Take Stand In Stalker Case

Actress Uma Thurman is scheduled to appear in a New York court on Monday as a witness in the trial of her alleged stalker. Jack Jordan, 35, is charged with misdemeanor stalking, aggravated harassment and felony coercion. He is accused of behaving bizarrely towards the star, threatening to kill himself if the Kill Bill actress began dating another man. He is also alleged to have presented Thurman with odd drawings, including a cartoon sketch of himself "walking along the edge of a razor blade," and sent a letter reading, "I feel afraid that if I see you out again with another man, I will want to kill myself, maybe even after we meet." Jury selection began on Thursday and the trial will kick off on Monday at Manhattan's Supreme Court.

Unhappy Romjin To Quit 'Ugly Betty'?

Actress Rebecca Romjin may be quitting Ugly Betty after the current second season, claiming new writers on the show have wrecked her character. Romjin has become a regular cast member since first appearing as Alexis Meade in the first season of the hit TV show. A third series has been approved, but Romjin will only return for guest appearances - hinting that she has fallen out with new writing staff recruited after the Writer's Guild of America strike late last year. She tells NYPost.com's Pop Wrap, "They made a tremendous amount of changes, especially with the writing staff (during the writer's strike). And while I know I'll be coming back next season, with all the changes, I'm not sure they can take care of my character they way they have been. So I'll be leaving, back in a recurring capacity, but time for me to leave and find something else."

Simpson Keeps Everyone Guessing Over Pregnancy

Pop star Ashlee Simpson has further fueled speculation she is pregnant by again refusing to be drawn on the claims during the taping for a TV show. After Simpson and rocker beau Pete Wentz announced their engagement earlier this month, sources immediately alleged the singer is expecting the couple's first child. The pair have since made numerous TV appearances and failed to clear up the rumors - even spoofing them by making a video showing Simpson wearing a fake baby bump. And the 23-year-old singer remained coy about the subject when she was quizzed about the baby rumors during her appearance on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show - which is due to air on Thursday. When asked directly by host DeGeneres, "Are you or are you not pregnant?" Simpson responded by saying, "Well, that has been going on for quite a while. That is something that I choose personally not to discuss." DeGeneres then made her promise she would not keep the public guessing for as long as fellow singer Jennifer Lopez - who waited until her swollen belly was so obvious, no one was surprised when she finally confirmed the baby news. Simpson told DeGeneres: "I swear. I promise you that. I give you my pinky (little finger) on that." The pair then hooked fingers to seal the deal. She also dodged one final attempt by DeGeneres to catch her out. When asked, "Is it a boy or a girl?" Simpson laughed and responded, "You're funny."

More Financial Woes For Spears

Britney Spears has been dragged into yet another financial mess - one of her brand companies owes more than $23,000 in taxes for earnings dating back four years. A week after Spears learned she'd have to pay her various legal representatives $400,000, the pop star has been hit with another high-cost headache. A document obtained by cable network E! shows that Britney Online Inc., one of Britney Spears' numerous name-brand companies, owes $23,589.17 in California state taxes on the entity's 2004 earnings. A warning from the Franchise Tax Board of the State of California states that "further interest and fees will accrue" if the sum is not paid. Spears' father Jamie and a court-appointed lawyer took charge of the singer's financial affairs after fighting for conservatorship of the Toxic star's estate following her hospitalization for mental illness issues in February. It is not known if the singer's other brand-name companies face similar tax issues.
