TV Ratings: 'Black Lightning' Gets a Promising Premiere on CW

TV Ratings: 'Black Lightning' Gets a Promising Premiere on CW
Good news for the CW. It seems the network still hasn't exhausted its viewers' appetite for superhero shows.

Black Lightning joined the lineup on Tuesday night, making it the fifth comic book series on the network — seventh, if you're counting genre-divergent entries iZombie and Riverdale. The first hour pulled a strong 0.8 rating among adults 18-49 and 2.3 million viewers. Those numbers are quite sound by CW standards, especially when you consider the fact that lead-in The Flash, the CW's No. 1 series, only performed incrementally better. Black Lightning shared The Flash's score in the key demo and lost fewer...

‘Fire and Fury’ to Be Adapted Into TV Series

Michael Wolff’s “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House” is being eyed for an adaptation into a television series, Variety has confirmed.

Endeavor Content has purchased the film and television rights to the book, which goes inside the first year of Donald Trump’s presidency. It largely portrays Trump as unprepared for the enormity of his office, and that he is unable to focus his attention on policy details. The book also includes quotes from former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, who referred to the 2016 meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer as “treasonous.” Bannon eventually resigned his position at Breitbart News over the furor caused by his statements.

The book proved to be an immediate best-seller and was sold out at bookstores in several major cities the day it was released.

No studio is currently attached to the project. Wolff will serve as an executive producer on the project with former

TV Review: Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Mosaic’ on HBO

TV Review: Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Mosaic’ on HBO
Populated by series like “Broadchurch,” “Happy Valley,” “Top of the Lake” and various versions of “The Bridge,” a TV subgenre has flourished in recent years: It depicts the aftermath of a serious crime in a relatively enclosed community. It’s a niche that the Steven Soderbergh-directed “Mosaic” fits into comfortably; the HBO limited series is a solid and generally satisfying addition to this mystery-thriller category.

The creative teams behind these series typically use the core transgression to delve into the workings of power, money, intimidation and influence in communities that seem close-knit but are actually messy and full of conflict. “Mosaic,” which stars Sharon Stone, Beau Bridges, Frederick Weller and a skilled ensemble, is set in a Utah resort community that revolves around skiing and mineral extraction, and the viewer never quite forgets that mountains and mines can be unforgiving places to get lost. The chilly, windswept setting of Park City, Utah amplifies

“The Lodgers” Looks Like it Has Decent Horror Potential

The Lodgers might have some decent horror potential to it if it can survive the initial release at the box office. If it’s just another horror coming out though then it might be best if it just releases and doesn’t really try to compete with anything. After the release of It at the tail end of last summer any other horror has been hard-pressed to really keep up with the numbers, so it’s been best, unless it’s a blockbuster, to let other horror films just be what they are and don’t expect too much. In terms of how good it

British Competition Watchdog Again Delays Report on Fox-Sky Takeover

The U.K. competition watchdog charged by the government with scrutinizing 21st Century Fox’s $15 billion takeover bid for Sky has again extended the deadline on its report. The proposed deal, which has been cleared elsewhere in Europe, has stalled in Britain amid tough opposition from some political quarters.

The Competition and Markets Authority was scheduled to deliver its preliminary findings in mid-December. It then pushed this date back to mid-January, citing the vast number of submissions about the case it had received.

The authority now says its findings will be published later in January.

The watchdog did not respond to a request for comment as the news of the latest delay surfaced, but sources confirmed the deadline extension. The authority’s website says that “provisional findings [are] due in January 2018.”

The authority’s full report is due to be submitted to the British government’s culture secretary in early March. That position

‘The Blacklist’ Team on the 100th Episode: A Heist and a Walk Down Memory Lane

‘The Blacklist’ Team on the 100th Episode: A Heist and a Walk Down Memory Lane
In crafting the 100th episode of “The Blacklist,” executive producers Jon Bokenkamp and John Eisendrath knew that they wanted Nathan Lane to play the role of blacklister No. 100 — Abraham Stern — a cunning manipulator who has devoted his life (and the lives of many innocents) to recovering the fortune that is his birthright. In the episode, Red (James Spader) encounters Stern when he goes on the hunt for a legendary treasure.

“It’s a big, super fun, heist episode,” says Bokenkamp. “And it’s incredible to see Nathan and James go head-to-head.”

While Eisendrath adds that they put “some special sauce” in this episode, due to its milestone status, he says the team also wanted to ensure it would please the devoted fans by matching the usual tone and providing a walk down memory lane.

“We didn’t want to be terribly self referential, but we do have a storyline that very explicitly references an episode that aired
