Jessica Chastain, Octavia Spencer to Reunite for Holiday Comedy (Exclusive)
Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer are reuniting in a new film.

The Help” co-stars will lead a holiday comedy for Universal.

Following a heated bidding war, the studio won the rights to the untitled pitch from Chastain’s Freckle Films.

Chastain and Kelly Carmichael wrote the original treatment and “Crazy Rich Asians” scribe Peter Chiarelli is on board to pen the script. Chastain is attached to produce with her company Freckle Films, along with Maven Pictures. Carmichael, Celine Rattray, and Trudie Styler will also produce.

Universal beat out Fox and Paramount for the pitch, which follows two women fighting the elements to make it home for Christmas.

Exec VP of production Erik Baiers and creative executive Mika Pryce will oversee the project for Universal.

The movie marks a re-team for Chastain and Spencer, who each earned an Oscar nomination for the smash hit “The Help,” with Spencer ultimately taking home the trophy for best supporting actress. Since

Also clinching international deals on “Jealous,” uniting Karin Viard, the most popular actress in France, and directors David and Stéphane Foenkinos (“Delicacy”), “Return of the Hero” and “Jealous” will screen in Paris as Studiocanal celebrates 2017 as its best year in over a decade at the French box office where it ranked No. 1 among French distributors – for only the third time in its history – and No. 4 overall – after Disney, Upi and Fox – punching 15.5 million admissions. ‘All the Money in the World’ Breakout Charlie Plummer to Star in ‘Spontaneous’ (Exclusive)
Charlie Plummer is in final negotiations to star opposite Katherine Langford in the sci-fi fantasy film “Spontaneous,” sources tell Variety.

Brian Duffield is directing the pic as well as adapting the script, which is based on the young adult novel of the same name by Aaron Starmer.

The story follows Mara Carlye (Langford), whose life is forever changed when students in her senior class explode for no discernible reason. As students continue to pop like blood-filled balloons and the town descends into both chaos and apathy, Mara and her friends stay close together as they await possible combustion – wondering what part of life is worth living if it might end suddenly.

Details about who Plummer will be playing are currently unknown.

Matt Kaplan and Max Siemers of Awesomeness Films are producing with Nicki Cortese via Jurassic Party Productions.
