Directed by Oscar-nominated director Nathaniel Kahn, “The Price of Everything” examines the headaches associated with pricing art and the vagaries of a market based around subjective opinions of what is hot and valuable. The company has acquired U.S. TV rights to the film and will also open it in theaters in at least a dozen U.S. markets prior to its premiere on HBO. It debuts in Sundance on Jan. 19. Kahn previously worked with HBO on his 2004 documentary “My Architect” and his short “Two Hands.”

Sundance: How Will Festival Tackle #MeToo, Political Turmoil, and More?

June Pictures CEO Alex Saks was having an amazing 2017. Her first three productions sold to Focus, Netflix and eOne after their Park City premieres; A24 picked up her Oscar contender “The Florida Project” in Cannes; and her latest sales title, “Wildlife,” was selected for the U.S. Dramatic Competition at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

But just a month ago, after sexual misconduct allegations surfaced against chairman Andrew Duncan, Saks took sole operating control of June and arrived at terms to buy out his stake.

“Unfortunately, when allegations like that exist, the place that we built is no longer a home,” Saks says. “It’s tarnished, so [taking over] felt like the necessary thing to do to protect these amazing pieces of work.” Though Duncan denied the accusations in a Dec. 15 statement, Saks says he “has very graciously chosen to take [his producer credit] off ‘Wildlife’ to give us the best opportunity for success” in Park City.

Film Review: ‘Maktub’

Film Review: ‘Maktub’
Successful Israeli TV duo Guy Amir and Hanan Savyon jump to the big screen with sparkling results in “Maktub,” a very funny and warmhearted comedy about two goodfellas who are jolted out of bad-guy work and into that of guardian angels. Oded Raz nimbly directs their clever script, whose array of colorful characters elicit sharp work from an excellent cast. Combining darker elements (including some jarring violence) with goofy and sentimental ones, this is a mainstream comedy with significant export as well as remake potential.

Steve (Savyon) and Chuma (Amir) are introduced flaunting their know-how as gourmands at a Jerusalem restaurant whose owner nervously awaits their approval. But their business isn’t strictly gastronomical: They are collectors of protection money for mobster Kaslassy (Itzik Cohen). When the joint’s new chef announces he’ll no longer pay such blood money, our protagonists doff their napkins and beat him to a bloody pulp. Later, feeling peckish,
